Help with picking out a guitar?

I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this--I need some advice and don't know where else to go. I have a big anniversary coming up and I'd like to get my wife an electric guitar as a gift. The problem is 1) I don't know have the faintest idea what type of guitar to buy and 2) she's left-handed which makes it more difficult.

She already has a Danelectro U2 and I had heard her mention something about a Les Paul at one point but there seem to be several different models and I don't know which are the better ones. I'm looking to spend around 2k at the most.

If you're spending that much money and are committed to getting her one she'll be happy with take her on a trip to stores and let her pick out a few and play them. Ask her to tell you when she has one that speaks to her, that she really likes. Get that. It's a sizeable investment and a serious instrument so that will make for the best possible fit.
