What do people think about possibly putting together a comp. of artists on the board?

Might be kinda cool. Discuss..

Alex H (Alex Henreid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 01:55 (nineteen years ago)

Best of Lynskey

Its morph 'em to pun cute (Matt Chesnut), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 02:28 (nineteen years ago)

Do it.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

If the ILX comp is any indication, it will only take two years.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 03:20 (nineteen years ago)

was there an ilx comp?!?!

nervous (cochere), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 03:39 (nineteen years ago)

Are you thinking of a CD-ROM type deal or do you have something more in mind?

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 03:40 (nineteen years ago)

Nervous, there were 2 ILX comps!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 03:49 (nineteen years ago)

shiiiiit
how on earth did i miss those

anyway if IMM is serious about it i'm down

nervous (cochere), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 03:51 (nineteen years ago)

LETS DO IT GUYZ

nervous (cochere), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:13 (nineteen years ago)

I'll reissue it...in 20 years.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:17 (nineteen years ago)

For many years a degree of acrimony and legal wranglings existed between Selzer and Hurting, and they could not agree on licensing arrangements to make IMM#1 available on CD. (In the ensueing vacuum, illegal and inferior quality bootleg CDs [mastered from old vinyl records] were distributed by an outfit calling themselves 'Ilxofon'.)

Happily, this situation was finally resolved in 2025, when Selzer and Hurting put aside their differences and entered a studio to transfer the classic album to CD, from the original mastertapes (reputedly mastering the album three times to make sure they sounded how they wanted the mass public to hear it). Finally, the world was able to enjoy IMM#1 without having to buy the discs illegally or track down rare, expensive vinyl.

Ilaxos

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:24 (nineteen years ago)

unfortunately, the masters had fallen apart, and no amount of baking could put them together again

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

I figured this had probably been done befrore on ilx.
But now that we have a dedicated board it's a good time for another, I suppose.

Alex H (Alex Henreid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Since the ILX comps already happened, maybe it would be cooler to pass around a song and have everybody add something to it? Not like I have the facilities to do something like that at the moment.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

That's a cool idea.

Alex H (Alex Henreid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

Of course, then we'd have the big logic vs. cubase vs. every other music making platform debate...

There are definitely people on this board I'd love to collaborate with (Lynskey, are you ever going to do me a remix?) and it would be interesting to see how it all worked out. However, it probably would take longer than the ILX comps to ever be completed...

Paranoid Spice (kate), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

We could use .omf files. Most programs accept those.

Alex H (Alex Henreid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

Or just send the separate tracks as wav files?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

This would totally be a cool thing. Totally.

I would riff my tasty lixx all over it. With my CHOPS.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

That's the album title: CHOPS!!!

Alex H (Alex Henreid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

I would prefer to use the OMFG format.

Confounded (Confounded), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

I have nothing to add.

No really, i don't really have any setup to do such a thing. I'm a fookin drummer, man. But I still like the comp idea, if folks don't think it'd be too redundant. I'm impressed with the overall level of stuff I've heard so far.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

No reason we can't do both.

Alex H (Alex Henreid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

Though if someone else wants to record it, I'd be glad to add a guitar, banjo or drum track to whatever it is.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

Everything can always use more percussion. Everything.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

Even an accident in a drum warehouse where some drums fall on a man, trapping him underneath?

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

Hahahahahaaaa.

I'm completely down for the compilation idea. Just tell me when/where to send a track.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

I'd love to take part somehow, although have no idea how it would be organised

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

There should just be a rolling thread where someone can ysi a track, some piece of sound or whatever, then others can download it, add new stuff, mix and reupload etc. on and on through several ever mutating strands.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

awesome idea :0

AaronK (AaronK), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

i'm down.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

I am possibly down with this.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

I still don't have a fucking copy of the ILX comp which I am actually on, so I'm only down with this if I'm actually going to get a copy of it when it's done.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

i'm sharing it on slsk

vacuum cleaner (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

vacuum cleaner (electricsound), Thursday, 27 October 2005 07:14 (nineteen years ago)

everybody stop using my hip lingo, yo.

so, what's the next step, since a lot of people are 'down'?

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 27 October 2005 08:07 (nineteen years ago)

Do we decide on a theme? Or go with the eclecticism?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 27 October 2005 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

oh, wait. i read this properly now. i was down with the comp idea. i'm not down with this one. sorry.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 27 October 2005 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i kind of support g-kit i'd rather do a comp than a piecemeal track

nervous (cochere), Thursday, 27 October 2005 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

add my yea to the comp idea and a nay to the piecemeal track.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 28 October 2005 00:56 (nineteen years ago)

YARR!! it be mutiny!

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:50 (nineteen years ago)

Sick As A Pike: An ILM Mutiny

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

Acyually, I kind of love the "all songs in 6/8" requirement. It's not as restricting as the early Raveonettes' gimmicks but just as press-friendly! And we'll get Momus!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

Ack-tchu-al-ly.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

Yarr! 6/8 be the signature of gods, Yarr

Pablo (Pablo A), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

ILX comps take time (for people like me, who couldn't organise a piss-up in a booze factory). I've no intention of making a third one. I have copies of 1 and 2 still. I'm posting Martin's copy in the next couple of days.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 30 October 2005 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

Three years later...

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

...go see the doctor!
