I never use flange. Auto flange is pretty much 'meh'. After reverb, phaser is the effect I use most on synths.

Or to put it another way, phaser always has a musical quality to it, while flange(r) just sounds like an effect that's been blanketed on top.

fyi as an inveterate cheater i am going to vote ring mod mainly because you can get those to do most of the other effects on here if the dicks that make it dont hide all the parameters from you (go EH ring thing!)

Chorus has I think more different applications in a band than the others. There are a few different ways you can use a chorus with a guitar and get some cool sounds, both for rhythm and lead. It can also be used a couple of different ways with the bass that really works with some tunes.

I did actually vote ring mod myself, but I'm ashamed to say I can't bring to mind the difference between phaser and flanger. I know they're different, but if you asked me to attempt to impersonate either one, I'd be stumped.
