one fun piece of news is that Fender has unceremoniously halted production on Hamer instruments, which is basically the fender business plan for the last few years (buy it, milk it, fuck it up, kill it) so i cant imagine anyone is terribly surprised.

i am in possession of a very "what? really?" signature secret guitar announcement from H4gstr0m, but I should probably be a good dealer and clam up about it for now. w45hburn is also talking about some signature something from one of the most important guitarists of all time (yeah sure) but hasnt spilled the info yet. an officially licensed hendrix acoustic is probably too hilarious to hope for, but i would be filled with many lols.

hendrix acoustic

That's hilarious. To my knowledge, Hendrix owned maybe two acoustic guitars during his professional career - an Epiphone and some 12 string.

maybe a rodrigo y gabriela model steinberger?

natlawdp, Thursday, 10 January 2013 20:31 (twelve years ago) link

the parker is a great idea because it would only take willie like a month to wear a hole through it

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 10 January 2013 21:37 (twelve years ago) link

ibanez news- or ee-bon-yez?

i met a non-spanish guy who used the spanish pronunciation all the time, used to crack me up... and made me wonder if everybody else was wrong.

natlawdp, Monday, 14 January 2013 18:03 (eleven years ago) link

The story of the ibanez name is kind of fascinating, I will explain later when not typing on iphone

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 14 January 2013 18:37 (eleven years ago) link

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 25 January 2013 16:19 (eleven years ago) link

cool shit from electro harmonix for sure, the return of the random tone generator and a really good rework of the hog into the hog 2, and some nice rethinking on their new looper (not to say the originals of both werent badass, but these are even better). also a pedal called the epitome that has a micropog, a stereo electric mistress, and a holy grail plus all in one pedal.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 25 January 2013 16:21 (eleven years ago) link

oh yeah and an 8 step cv expression sequencer that is pretty O_O but we'll see if the right sort of people figure out how useful it could be.

Another NAMM where the synth stuff totally overshadows the guitar gear...

mxr self-contained talk box is pretty badass, also a pretty decent pedal power brick for $120 street sounds like it could have some legs

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 25 January 2013 23:11 (eleven years ago) link

the mini ms20 seems weird to me but i'll try one out

dutch tl;drs (electricsound), Friday, 25 January 2013 23:47 (eleven years ago) link

the MS20 mini will be $599 which is a pretty fantastic pricetag if it lives up.

owenf, Saturday, 26 January 2013 10:55 (eleven years ago) link

MIDI implementation is just MIDI to pitch/gate, nothing else. And the pitch CV is Hz/V (as on the original MS-20) not V/oct (which would make it easier to interface with most modular stuff). Korg seem to have gone for an 'exactly like the original' approach, but then that makes it a hard product to sell. Indie bands who are using something like a MicroKorg as their only synth aren't going to buy it, because it's difficult to program and there are no patch memories. Musicians who already have some V/oct modular gear are going to find it difficult to use with their existing systems. Old school analogue purists love the idea of this synth now, but they're soon going to be picking holes in it ("It doesn't have a full size keyboard"/"An AB test with the original doesn't sound exactly exactly exactly the same"/"It runs from a 9V main adapter"/etc.). The thing is, with a few concessions to modernity (V/oct pitch CV, fuller MIDI implementation, less confusingly arranged patchbay), this could be a big seller. But then it wouldn't be so marketable as a real MS-20. As it is, for the money you can get a Dark Energy II for half the price of the MS-20 mini, spend the rest on modules, and have a more versatile and more useable system for the same cost.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

Agreed! Not my steez or my budget, but I respect that they were cool to Chris Whitley way back when.

Duesy also seems to have picked up a lot of steam in the Christian scene lately...
