Apparently it's genuine, IE it wasn't a scam and someone actually did pay 150 bucks for it.

OMG look at the feedback rating of the buyer!

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 27 October 2005 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck! Haha!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 27 October 2005 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

This has to be a bored AHer's idea of a joke.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 27 October 2005 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, it's no Bahn Sage but..

Haha.

You should have seen the shit that kicked off about that on the ah off-topic list.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 27 October 2005 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

Someone explain this to me please

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 27 October 2005 23:46 (nineteen years ago)

(also what's ah?)

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 27 October 2005 23:49 (nineteen years ago)

AH = Analog Heaven (an analog synth related mailing list).

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 27 October 2005 23:57 (nineteen years ago)

cool, thanks. So what's so strange about somebody buying a 303? I can see from google that the Bahn Sage was like a vaporware synth, but 303s are real, right?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 28 October 2005 00:53 (nineteen years ago)

They usually sell for around $1000 (maybe more at their peak several years back) so someone snagging it with a buy-it-now of $150 is quite a steal. Not to mention the fact that it appears to be absolutely untouched and brand new which is in itself a rare find. The fact that the buyer has a feedback rating of 808 (the classic drum machine companion to the 303) makes the whole thing seem like some kind of cosmic joke.

That in turn reminded me of the Bahn Sage which was an elaborate prank played by an Analogue Heaven member involving 3D rendered images of a non-existant synth, faked brochure images, etc.

Whew, I guess you had to be there.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Friday, 28 October 2005 01:02 (nineteen years ago)

what about the fact that it seems like the description comes from the original press release, i.e. talking about it making great bass lines to play along with instead of squelchy acid lines, so we assume the seller, who mostly sells guitar straps, found it in a box or the back of his store or something, yet it says to use MIDI, which the 303 doesn't have? Maybe he's confusing the DCB ports for MIDI.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 28 October 2005 02:22 (nineteen years ago)

The 303 used sync24 to keep in time with drum machines etc. It used the same 5-pin socket as MIDI, so the guy probably got confused.

+ yeah, I'm not a 303 freak by any means, but I'd have dropped $150 on that in a heartbeat if I'd seen it. I'd have probably checked to make sure the batteries hadn't rotted out, and sold it on straightaway, mind!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 28 October 2005 07:25 (nineteen years ago)

The x0xb0x clone has real MIDI:

The seller speaks:

some of the blog comments are kind of grim.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

sk5 ska
behringer breaks
vialtone viletones

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

sk5 ska!

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

"behringer breaks" is an apt title for other reasons.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

xpost: My first samplers were the SK1 and the SK5!!!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 28 October 2005 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

Heheh... I have an SK1 in my studio which I modded so it works with MIDI. I still use it.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 28 October 2005 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

I used an Sk1 on my oberlin conservatory application tape, got me on the waiting list, then in to college.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 29 October 2005 17:17 (nineteen years ago)
