i need a pianist

hi all, i am trying to find a pianist to write some songs with. i am looking for something easygoing and laid back. if you know or love a pianist that you think might want to tinker around, let me know. i am p flexible and i am just looking for some projects to jazz things up a bit. i am located in brooklyn but am open to speaking with anyone who is interested.

i saw this and i have to chime in because i feel u! i went on craigslist yesterday, just to check, and i found a couple of possibilities, but no one at my beginner level who would want to do what i wanted to do. i've been thinking about placing an ad explicitly asking for what i want just to see if it appears or possibly going old school and using flyers? i need to meet some new people but i'm scared of the whole process. people keep telling me that starting a band is like dating, but i am kind of failing at interpreting that analogy in any useful way.

also i loved your vocals on jordan's album! also the album is great! i listened to it on a snowy bus ride home a week or two ago and it was very pleasant.

good luck in your search for a pianist. i think you should place an ad for your dream accompanist and see if that person appears. If can't hurt to try? Just meet for coffee in a neutral area. that's all i remember about meeting strangers.

yeah, that was me! what i'm looking for is taking a long time to articulate/consolidate, but there are three main things:
1) someone who plays another instrument (guitar would make most sense i guess but really the next two things are more important)
2) someone who can deal with my beginner levels of skills with the understanding that i have aptitude and a good ear (which i believe i do, usually) in spite of my -- i'm gonna say it! -- somewhat advanced age and general life circumstances.
3) someone with whom i am musically compatible and personally compatible on a 100% platonic work relationship level.

and this person is out there, a complete stranger? that just seems so unlikely. but who knows?

i have a flyer made up but i'm not sure about it. was also thinking of creating a different email account for this stuff just so i can keep track of shit/not tell the whole world that my name is la lechera, etc.

right now i don't know that i am looking for a vocalist necessarily* but if i were, i'd maybe want him/her to be comfortable with the idea of finding an interesting way to sing really simple boring sentences, like

It is his first night
He is on the road
He is in the city
He is lonely
He is afraid

It is not like his dream
The dream was how it would be

(this is a tiny portion of an exercise in this book i found at work -- it's not something i composed. the exercise is called "runaway" -- the book is full of weird topics like that, black death, a showering woman, could go on and on. not your everyday sentence structure textbook. i can explain more upon request.)

got it. sounds like you're not looking for vocals, you want to go instrumental. but i love those lyrics. and i love showers. and simple sentences; generally i find the simpler the better.

i want someone who can play a little jazz, set the mood, and let me riff between registers and try some high notes

but on a more basic level i am looking to collaborate in general because it has been years since i've sat down with someone and sang a good song :( :( i like all sorts of music. i used to be in a band in highschool and we were bad but it was so fun

... i think that post just officially cemented me as a 30 something man living the American dream.
