It seems the Greenspun Ask A Drunk has disappeared forever. From the looks of things its been deleted off the server. I know a few days ago there was a redirector on its front page, the white supremacist / gay porn nastiness was out of control and the SMH hate was getting silly.

I'm going to email Mr. Greenspun and see if the pre-SMH stuff still exists and if we can get a copy of it.

They were the blissed of times, they were the wurst of times. RIP.

Just got an email from Phil Greenspun. He's deleted all the unmoderated boards from AAD, so it is gone forever.

If you want to help - find the google caches of old AAD threads and copy the source into text documents. I've done from the classic "Does anyone know where to get Blissium . . . " thread to 30 threads before it. However i am tired and want to go to sleep. I'll do as much as I can tommorow. Celestes started from the beginning and is as we speak about 25 in. Get what you can.

Just emailed Lynskey to tell him I already have Word copies of most of the old Ask A Drunk, to which he’s welcome. I may have missed a bit here and there, so perhaps there’s a case for a belt-and-braces approach, but don’t worry, no major salvage operation is needed.

We've done it all. Celeste has been painlessly crosschecking and looking for anything we've missed. God knows what to do with it all now. Rest assured, Mike Morris' "Trout Fishing in the Andes" and Bo Jeeves Jackson's classic "Rooster Porn" thread are now safe.

Only at a very early stage. We've got everything now. It took about 10 man hours to do. I expect big ups to myself, Jarl and especially Celeste. Celeste did most of the work which again proves her to be the greatest woman who ever lived.

(Lynskey's been genuinely busy, Jarlr'mai is pretending that he's been busy even though we all know that his job consists of eating soft fruit and occasionally saying "really?" in a slightly condescending tone of voice and Robin's been balls-deep in a child. Again. Sadly CJ has been seduced back to the more popular uplit sunny climes of ILE, I believe Pooster to be busy upon some unfathomable task the like of which I cannot begin to comprehend. Rex as ever is an enigma, a zephyr, I think he is sweeping a yard gently but in such a way as to ensure that the world remians in place. Yet still AAD stumbles on bloodied but unbowed, if only for our adoring public. To borrow a phrase from the ever excellent mark s on ILE lurkers I kiss you, you all r0x0r).

I have not been seduced anywhere (sadly), though it's true I have made a few inconsequential posts over on ILE recently. I'm genuinely busy and coping with large amounts of personal and professional rubbish right now but this is nothing which cannot be cured by taking a cold shower and drinking an entire bottle of Pimm's, so I Shall Return! As General MacArthur said while stamping around the Philippines. Or something.

I shall face the week with renewed equanimity, safe in the knowledge that sanity is still available to me in moderate doses.
The fact that the week consists of acting as a suit is less cheering. I have something of a need for an antidote to corporate speak- I occasionally have to use it ( for self preservation/camouflage), but I want to be really sure that I don't start believing it. Thus we can see that AAD is really a medical, nay, a prophylactic site.

That explains a lot.
