You may not be aware, but the small village down the road from Ormskirk, Burscough (where my mothers side of the family are from), are today in the FA Trophy Final. They're massive underdogs and will probably lose, but heres hoping.

COME ON THE LINNETS!

Lynskey (Lynskey), Sunday, 18 May 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Underdogs my arse! A quick google has revealed that they were 18th in the UniBond League Premier Division last year - a veritable force to be reckoned with.

Wishing them lots of luck!

C J (C J), Sunday, 18 May 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ! ! ! ! !

Lynskey (Lynskey), Sunday, 18 May 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Excuse me?

It seems that I have caught myself on fire and I have to go outside.

Excuse me.

Zen Clown (Zen Clown), Sunday, 18 May 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

BURSCOUGH! MIGHTY MIGHTY BURSCOUGH!
They'll be partying in the Junction tonight.

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 18 May 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

You might well take the piss out of Burscough, but that's where my formative years were spent, in a condemned bargee's cottage. (True) And thence to Crossens, where I was repeatedly buggered by my babysitter, according to my psychiatrist. Does anyone remember the Last Drop Village? Or the Churchtown Pumping Station? Or, since I'm going for a tripartite structure here, the Ormskirk Cabbage Museum?

Pooster (pooster), Sunday, 18 May 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmmmm... Burscough Bridge.

Pooster (pooster), Sunday, 18 May 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

we weren't taking the piss. we're genuinely pleased. we've been celebrating.

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 18 May 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmmmmmm...Cabbage!

Zen Clown (Zen Clown), Sunday, 18 May 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe now they’ll get a large injection of cash from the Murdoch franchise and reopen those beloved curves!

Robin (RJM), Monday, 19 May 2003 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice brassicas you've got there.

C J (C J), Monday, 19 May 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Robin (RJM), Monday, 19 May 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

C J (C J), Monday, 19 May 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Zen Clown (Zen Clown), Monday, 19 May 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

....is better than fucking Jehovah's Witnesses?

C J (C J), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

They swoon so easily, I lost interest in them a long time ago.

Nuns, now, regardless of diet, can be a lot of fun.

Zen Clown (Zen Clown), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

whither the massive overdogs?? or are they all still lapping up the mess left after lyskey's battleship exertions. bulkhead explosions my foot. no wonder he squints when he lights the fuses.

hurley (hurley), Friday, 23 May 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

And how.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Friday, 23 May 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that number 11 is Mr Hankey before digestion.

BTW: I have instructed my solicitor to make you cease and desist saying there is only one Gary Martindale.

Sincerely
(the other Gary Martindale)

Gary Martindale (pooster), Saturday, 24 May 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

But I'M Gary Martindale!

Gary Martindale (Matt), Monday, 26 May 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(Standing up) I'm Gary Martindale!

Pooster (pooster), Monday, 26 May 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

If you type 'Gary Martindale' into the google image search, you get this picture :

Which one of you will admit to being Gary Martindale now??

C J (C J), Monday, 26 May 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Me!

Gary Martindale (Lynskey), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm still concerning myself with hurley's question: "whither the massive overdogs?". I vote Chorley. Or possibly Cirencester where there is a lovely little pub called "The massive overdog" run by such a lovely couple, Malcolm and Dolly, maybe you've met them? Of course, everyone's offerering good food these days but the way they do it is so thoughtful, it's just like a lOvely little pub you discovered youself. It's simply wonderful, and no proles. NO FUCKING PROLES.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

< / whatever it was I was driving at>

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That pub in Ciren isn't called "The Massive Overdog" at all. It's the Slug and Lettuce.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
REVIVE!

Burscough 3 - 2 Gillingham. The trophy is as good as in the dj booth of the Royal.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

Throwing on three strikers when Gillingham was down to ten may have looked reckless to some at the time but now it looks like tactical genius.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

That's Burscough for you, the only Total Footballing side in the Unibond.

EAT OUR DUST MATLOCK TOWN!!

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 10 November 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...

On one hand I've got myself to blame (Lynskey), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

I myself am looking forward to sharing a jar (and a "laugh"!!!) with Paul "Scholesy" Scholes, Ryan "y" Giggs "y" and "Rio Ferdinand" in the Barrons after the game. Should be fun.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

Don't you think it would be more fun to console a disheartened Van der Sar?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

Alas. I just saw the news.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

Can't speak now, mourning.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 9 December 2005 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

Can't speak now, morning.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 9 December 2005 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

Although it is afternoon here, I find that I am speechless also.

As strange as it may seem, I think that perhaps sporting events in the UK may have an effect upon the entire universe.

I don't pretend to know what this thread is really about but I feel like kicking something...

Zen Clown, Friday, 9 December 2005 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
Apparently beating Burscough makes you good enough to draw with Man U.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 9 January 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

Burscough would have won that

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

Indubitably.

My friend and I kept joking during the game that Nigel Clough told the players at halftime to make sure not to score as they needed the trip to Old Trafford.
