I have no knowledge of Rex's death. I was joking. I thought he might find it amusing. Even more so if he is still alive.

Rex, as you must know, is an ardent Do-It-Yourself handyman, as ready with a countersink as he is with a quip. It seems he was laying tile in the vestibule, where he had spread a layer of tile cement in preparation for another course of tiles, when he decided to see if any of the tiles he had already laid had a raised edge that needed to be tamped down even with its neighboring tiles. To get a better look, he crouched down and laid his ear flat against the floor.
I don't need to tell you he was mortified with embarassment when he discovered his ear firmly cemented to the floor, along with his cheek and much of the hair on the right side of his head. Rather than risk anyone finding out about his unhandy accident, in true English fashion, he managed to reach a box cutter out of his coveralls tool pocket, wherewith he hacked his hair free in the first hour. A month later, he bit the bullet and severed his ear, thus rendering him mostly freed from the cement.
The sticky problem remains whether or not to slice off his right cheek and leave the majority of it implanted in the hallway floor. A man such as Rex can make do with one ear. But Rex would be a rather sad and dull Ask-A-Drunkite without his cheek, now wouldn't he?
