R.I.P Zen Clown - passed 12/20/05

James Stoetzle, Wednesday, 21 December 2005 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

I am greatly saddened by his passing
I shall drink to him tonight
Wherever you are and what ever time scale you are on I propse that
on Christmas Eve at 8 PM we drink to Zen
All those in favour raise your glasses

Geoffrey Judge ( Ivor Feltersnatch), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

I am greatly saddened to know that Zen will not be here again to regale us with his trouser-dropping humor. We will not see his like again. He once posted the Whiffenpoof Song on the Where's C.J? thread; it seems appropriate now:

We are poor little lambs
Who have lost our way,
Baa! Baa! Baa!
We are little, black sheep
Who have gone astray!
Baa! Baa! Baa!

Gentlemen, songsters, off on a spree,
Doomed from here to eternity.
Lord! Have mercy on such as we,
Baa! Baa! Baa!

On one hand I've got myself to blame (Lynskey), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

I'd like to express my heartfelt condolences to the Stoetzle family.

Heave Ho, Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

I would like to add my 'voice' to this list of people expressing their condolences to the Stoetzles. Marty will be missed.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

Lost for words.
Thankyou for letting us know.
We will raise many glasses to him and all of his family. Thinking of you all.
This board will be a poorer place without him.

Celeste, Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:20 (nineteen years ago)

I too miss him, even though he kinda hated me (though I did deserve it).

Here's to you man, AAD would've been a boring place without thee. Have fun in the Great Gig in the Sky. RIP.

Dante (Sean3), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:22 (nineteen years ago)

Dude Steele, do you have an email address by which I might reach Marty's family, other than his old earthlink address zen1@earthlink.net? I sent an email there and it bounced. If you do have one, I'd like it. Thanks.

Aimless (Aimless), Thursday, 22 December 2005 03:48 (nineteen years ago)

I too am sorrowful at the passing of a man that called me "friend".

I spoke with Marty on the evening of the 14th and he seemed to be of good spirits although suffering from a cold or a touch of the flu.... not sure which.

Aimless, my email addy is legit if you would be so kind as to contact me there.

Was Marty his real name? What did he die from?

Geoffrey Judge, are you in the UK? If so, at 12:00 PST, I will drink to him as well.

Dante (Sean3), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:28 (nineteen years ago)

I can scarcely believe it. I knew him briefly, yet his emails and posts brightened my day. I received a santa email the day he passed. Condolances to friends and family. A short verse he use to include in his emails ....

"Sometimes naked
Sometimes mad
Now the scholar
Now the fool
Thus they appear on earth:
The free men."
-Hindu verse

Bless you Marty.

StrangeDays (StrangeDays), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:05 (nineteen years ago)

Tis best we drink at 8 PM in our own time zone
He would be greatly amussed by a 24-hour drink to his memory

He will be so greatly missed by all those he "spoken" to and by many others who join this board who will never know him

RIP, my friend

I'm sorry to here about Zen. I had hoped he wasn't really sick. Goodbye clown.

Anna. (Anna.), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

I meant Goodbye Mr Clown.

Anna. (Anna.), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Anna, either clown or Mr Clown would be fine by him I am quite sure he would take no offence at either.

Dante, Yes his given name was Marty.

I have have no positive proof of the cause of death but I suspect that he has died slowly over the last several years a little bit at a time due to CJ refusing to hop on a plane to the US then walk barefoot and naked from New York city to Missouri.

Don't think that I am making light of his passing..... he has said that exact line to me on several occasions..... but he said the same thing about Matt and Lynky (as he called him) too.

When I last spoke with him he told me about a torrid love affair he was kindling with a ravishing beauty from Australia....

I’m deeply sorry to learn of this. Ask A Drunk and Mindless Prattle would have been immeasurably poorer without Marty.

Rex (Rex), Friday, 23 December 2005 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

Marty spoke highly of you all and loved the time spent on AAD. Other than myself he left behind a daughter. No other blood family besides the two of us. I won't get into details on how he passed but he loved the New Hampshire license plate "Live free or die" and when they came knocking on his door he chose death. I am not at the mercy to tell you who “they” are but he always did things his way no matter the consequence. Truly a free bird that could not be stopped by anybody but himself. I can only hope that you all will carry on with AAD without him. Thanks for your condolences. –James the Stoetzle

Will do.

In the finest traditions of AAD I'm now going to go and get completely obliterated.

Oh, bollocks

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 24 December 2005 01:35 (nineteen years ago)

I'm very sorry to hear of Zen Clown's passing. His spirit will live on when I will "accidently" take a drunken feel of Sarah's tits. :-(

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Saturday, 24 December 2005 02:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure he's in a better place, one with a steady supply of blissium. He's probably up there with Jacob Beardsley right now, laughing at all of us (especially me).

Dante (Sean3), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 07:08 (nineteen years ago)

I knew him well, and was quite depressed upon hearing of his passing. Yes, I learned of it on christmas eve. He was a wonderful man, a teacher, in a way. He will be missed.

I have known Marty for 30 yrs. I called him Uncle Marty. He was my Dads friend. I was not a contributor to this site but I often looked in to see what he was up to. I did not always get him, but who did. He was unique. He was my friend. I will miss him.

friend of Marty, Thursday, 29 December 2005 00:10 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
"We rise up your glasses against evil forces sayin 'Whisky for my men, Beer for the horses'"
Ahh.. a completely approprate Willie Nelson quote... oh the irony..

Marty was the "philosoph" to my "y"

Gov. Jerry Brown (Uber Alles), Sunday, 22 January 2006 01:35 (nineteen years ago)

Farewell Marty the Zen Clown. You touched our lives and
stole our rhubarb.
