I don't really get the "intentional/accidental" difference. I mean, regardless of whether fertilization happens or not, you intended to fuck. After that, matters aren't up to you.

A Catholic, eh?

I am a mother fucker

the only real micaroni (Euler), Monday, 22 September 2008 22:11 (sixteen years ago)

Intending to fuck is not the same thing as trying for a pregnancy, DUHHHH.

Radiant Flowering Crab (Rock Hardy), Monday, 22 September 2008 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

there's something called in vitro, for one thing

homosex quarterly (velko), Monday, 22 September 2008 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, once, planned, proud daddy, daughter all growed up.

Radiant Flowering Crab (Rock Hardy), Monday, 22 September 2008 22:15 (sixteen years ago)

I don't think it's duhhh at all! But I guess it's my weird understanding of "intention", wherein a person has to have it in their power to bring about the chosen outcome in order to count as an intention. To intend to do something, your act has to be sufficient to bring that something about. When I decide to "try" to make someone pregnant, my actions are insufficient to bring about the pregnancy. </philosopher>

the only real micaroni (Euler), Monday, 22 September 2008 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

i was thinking about if you're in a long-term relationship with someone and you decide, no more contraception, let's have a kid (the ticking clock scenario) of course the actual fertilization is out of your control.

homosex quarterly (velko), Monday, 22 September 2008 22:24 (sixteen years ago)

That truly is a weird understanding of "intention." There are very few things we intend to do which don't rely on the cooperation of at least one other person to successfully happen. xpost

Radiant Flowering Crab (Rock Hardy), Monday, 22 September 2008 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

I love the thread title/question. What, pray tell, else could one impregnate?

Michael White, Monday, 22 September 2008 22:31 (sixteen years ago)

a pause

metametadata (n/a), Monday, 22 September 2008 22:33 (sixteen years ago)

1. To make pregnant; inseminate.
2. To fertilize (an ovum, for example).
3. To fill throughout; saturate: a cotton wad that was impregnated with ether.
4. To permeate or imbue: impregnate a speech with optimism

You could impregnate a girl.

I have, and w/o wanting to come over all "new man" about it, it was great in every way imaginable. I wish I could do it again, we both do actually, but circumstances (ie health of partner) dictate otherwise.

Yes, true. This is why we ask for a moist tampon from females wishing to buy liquor or vote.

Iron Queef (libcrypt), Tuesday, 23 September 2008 11:22 (sixteen years ago)

cmon ppl it's disingenuous not to get what i mean here, pre-victorian social mores etc

J4gger Dynamic Pentangle (Just got offed), Tuesday, 23 September 2008 12:24 (sixteen years ago)

Louis, I'm trying really hard to cut you a break here, but do you really ever think through the things that come out of your mouth/keyboard?

Do you really need someone on this board to explain to you why extolling pre-Victorian social mores etc. could be... problematic to say the best?

i'm not extolling them ffs, i'm referencing them

i don't actually subscribe to "fertility = womanhood", christ

J4gger Dynamic Pentangle (Just got offed), Tuesday, 23 September 2008 12:59 (sixteen years ago)

I'm not having a go at you, Louis, I'm just trying to explain why you are rubbing me (and obv other people here) the wrong way on this.

You might want to be more careful with the way that you "reference" things. Generally people don't refer to outdated racist, sexist, etc. attitudes of the past as being "old skool" or "classic" or whatever without raising some hackles.

Anyway, sorry for derail. As you were.

had a couple scares, but no

mookieproof, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 14:52 (sixteen years ago)

We didn't really intend on having a baby, but didn't really mind if it happened either.

In other words, we were aware of the consequences, but weren't actively trying either.

Seems like if you're intending, you get the calendars, fish oil, and Farmer's Almanac out or something.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 14:59 (sixteen years ago)

"calendars, fish oil, farmer's almanac"

When you've had a couple of goes w/o success, it kind of gets like that, yeah.

the answer int his situation is "no," because the morning after pill prevents pregnancy. it doesn't (and can't) end one

retardo montalban (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 23 September 2008 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

RS and had to do a Sunday morning trip down to that very clinic (the one off Soho Sq.?) for that very purpose once. LOL.

I also took EC once in college but didn't have any puking either time thankfully.

Fr. Jemima Racktouey (ENBB), Monday, 29 September 2008 23:26 (sixteen years ago)

They changed the law in here a few years ago, so nowadays you don't need a doctor's prescription for the morning-after pill, anyone can just buy it at the pharmacist. It makes sense to me, I think previously there was way too much hassle for a piece of paper which I assume most doctors wrote automatically.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 13:08 (sixteen years ago)

Same in the U.S. if you're over 18. Under 18s still need a prescription as do women on Medicaid which is problematic for a number of reasons.

Fr. Jemima Racktouey (ENBB), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 13:49 (sixteen years ago)
