Workplace Spouses

Apparently, 75% of office workers have a "workplace spouse" - a fellow employee that you have an intense relationship with due to the fact that you spend most of your working week together, and whom you would try to protect to ensure that they remain close to you and in the relationship. And I presume the gender that you're attracted to.

I think I have one of these workplace spouses and our relationship has been getting weirder in recent times to the point of outright flirting.

This was the subject of Sally Forth a couple weeks ago. Sally got all jealous and bitchy. But we all know Ted wouldn't cheat!

This whole notion is gross and unseemly. Be professional at work!

My husband and I have worked at the same place for over a year. We only work together one day a week, as we have different schedules. And on that day, we get in silly hoosband-wife beef discussions, all a-bitching, but about stuff like the imaginary number system and various models of human evolution.

Or he'll ask me to explain a thing and get mad when he doesn't understand what its significance is. "Sorry, you just asked me to explain molecular bonding theory. I can't tell you the implications! Sheesh, I'm sorry!"

Yeah this is very weird and unpalatable to me. But then I do work with a lot of college students.

I've witnessed this phenomenon on a few occasions, but 75% sounds quite hight to me. Where'd you get that number, Esteban?

last night my workspouse emailed me from her 2nd job and asked me to look over some emails to her boss man. i did, and she was very grateful -- i had to have her tone it down a bit (she's miffed w him).
