do you kill bugs in your house with your bare hands?

Hypothetical scenario: when a house centipede is walking on the wall as you go downstairs in the basement, do you hit it with back of your fist and then wipe the little bit of guts and legs that stuck to your hand (even though you tried to hit it only hard enough for it to die) on the back of your jeans?

Do you ever kill a real tiny black speck bug with your finger or thumb?

I kill bugs with my bare hands 6
Bugs should be free. That's why I capture all my house bugs and throw them out for mother nature to deal with 5
I get a man to kill it for me. But the men I live with are sissies and *always* use toilet paper or shoes for any kind 2
I run somewhere safe where I can cry 1
Now I'm wondering if the men (or butch women) that I live with don't always use toilet paper or shoes to squash those b 0

I read somewhere that you should write for all sexes so not to be sexist - that's why I included both men and butch women

I hit them with my hand when I can't get at them with a shoe, but I have a woman clean up the debris.

I never could stomach killing bugs, so I catch them in a glass and throw them out.

bugs, spiders, lorikeets that got stuck in the chimney and are now freaking the fuck out bashing on the window - scoop 'em all up by hand and take them out the front door.

I catch them in a glass and throw them outside.

The only time I remember killing a bug in recent memory was when I went to ATP in the UK and there was a big spider in the tub. I don't know what type of scary shit british spiders can do or can transmit, so i thought I'd play it safe.

i usually smash 'em with a kleenex (so i don't have to touch them.) there are so fucking many where i live it's no good to just throw them back outside.

i've had too many spider bites to feel sorry for them.

geekquel (latebloomer), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:13 (sixteen years ago)

but your killing them barely makes a dent then? xp

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:14 (sixteen years ago)

i usually ignore them unless they are ants, then i stomp them

Spiders, I capture and release. At the bottom of my back stairs there's generation after generation of a large spider orginally named Charlotte that I should probably displace since I'm always getting her web in my hair but I can't quite bring myself to mess with. Other bugs in the house often get thwacked with my fencing saber, especially flies. I loathe flies and have no compunction about killing them.

i remember this time when i was a kid my dad squashed a big ol' waterbug with his bare foot. that was gross. i kill bugs except sometimes i get crickets to jump out the front door if i can steer them over there

I used to be really squeamish about the taking of insect life - and still wouldn't kill a spider cos i think they're great - but my parents' house has the moth and I really feel no qualms about squashing them on sight. Also it's kind of cool when your reflexes are fast enough to catch an irritating midge/mozzy by clapping.

Ants, I give 'em the thumb. Flies and mosquitos get a rolled-up newspaper. Spiders and stinkbugs, I coax onto some paper and take outside carefully, for different reasons. Mosquito hawks I leave alone. Ladybugs, I welcome in as friends.

There was an Eastern carpenter bee hovering at the top of the basement stairs the other day after I had gone down to do the laundry. I know they don't sting, but I'll admit it: I totally pussed out and hid in a corner until it disappeared.

I don't care if you're blah...quite purple. (kingkongvsgodzilla), Thursday, 21 May 2009 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

my answer is yes, but really it depends on the bug. the big nuisances in my apt are these little moths that are really small and fly slowly, but there are just tons of them. so somedays i just walk around clapping them in my hands until there's half a dozen little black marks on my palms. anything bigger or more unusual/intimidating-looking than a housefly i'd probably not use my bare hands.
