Apparently, the hole in the front of men's underwear was originally developed for the sake of warmth because most restroom facilities were outdoors and it was cold. As more and more bathrooms moved into the warm and cozy interior, many men stopped sticking their things through the hole, forgot the creation story, and assumed it was for ventilation purposes. However, when confronted with the question of why women's underwear doesn't have a "ventilation hole", most men can only hypothesize, weakly, that women don't get as sweaty down there.
