I love crumpets. Especially with marmite. I AM SO NAUGHTY.

Crumpets with poached eggs ftw.

ledge, Thursday, 1 March 2012 14:38 (thirteen years ago)

yeah used to be on the crumpets every day. had 12 in one night once - picked em up from morrison's reduced to clear on expiry date. couldn't keep it up forever of course so i weened myself onto pikelets for a while and then scotch pancakes. get a craving every now and then but i just make some toast.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 1 March 2012 14:38 (thirteen years ago)

IMO toast is a poor substitute when you're jonesing for crumpets.

reduced to clear on expiry date

This is the best, it seems that every supermarket ever has crumpets prices to clear.

And not just a few packs either, usually it's tonnes of them.

Is this is one of those foodstuffs that means different things in different countries (i.e. the USA)?

LOL Scottish crumpet ≠ English crumpet

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Thursday, 1 March 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

Used to jack crumpets every day when I got to work, then the bastards got rid of the toaster for health and safety reasons. Still dabble on weekends though.

And yeah crumpets with marmite = biggest high you'll ever have.

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 1 March 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

Crumpets are not great in the US of A. They come vacuum packed and are more like a rubbery flabby pikelet.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 1 March 2012 14:57 (thirteen years ago)

Scottish crumpet is a sort of pancake, never liked 'em, English crumpets are nice however

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Thursday, 1 March 2012 14:59 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think there is a US thing called a crumpet. you can find (english style) crumpets in specialty food stores, i.e. corner stores that sell taytos and barry's tea, but they quality is as you would expect. you of course get "english" muffins here, which are basically old skool pikelets - no holes on the outside - but not quite as good. last time i saw pikelets back in england tho they had somehow become just flat crumpets.

Grilling cheese on crumpets is A++++, the cheese goes through the holes.
Anything sweet on crumpets is dud but also classic because you're still eating crumpets.

kinder, Friday, 2 March 2012 02:39 (thirteen years ago)

kinder, that is crazy talk - golden syrup or jam on crumpets is the BEST

After Sex Crumpets?

Mark G, Friday, 2 March 2012 10:12 (thirteen years ago)

if i have crumpets more than three days in a row they begin to resemble old shoes

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 2 March 2012 10:28 (thirteen years ago)

I read 'have' as "as in 'eat'", and wondered what resembled old shoes...

Mark G, Friday, 2 March 2012 10:45 (thirteen years ago)

I tried crumpets for the first time about a year ago.
I like them but I only eat them at work, where there's a regular supply of them. Handy as a morning or afternoon snack.

Was too late for this poll. Just had my first ever crumpets a couple of days ago. Bought a couple of packs at Morrisson's to bring back with me. Hooked on the nasty deliciousness tbh
