I do like how I gradually felt more like these kitchen islands were on boats just before the kitchen islands themselves became boats

idk about the other ones but #8 is on a houseboat. I imagine the owner/captain feeling a twinge of disappointment whenever one of his dinner parties draws to a close without anyone making an Inception gag.

re island #1 feel like it was a huge mistake to use granite w brown veins it just looks dirty or damaged

I wonder, did the buyer pay a premium for the granite due to its one-of-a-kind venation, or did they get a discount because it was deemed unattractive? I feel like it looks better in person than in the photo, which is a common problem with avant-garde kitchen islands.

loving that natural edge counter top! looks v tight against the stove and fridge etc tho, they prob just pushed it in to fit in the photo

jmm's island (10.c, unofficially) is mindblowing because it's so far away from the mainland. you almost have to stop for the night and make camp on the way to the island

if people find the pace of this thread overwhelming/exhausting, I can slow it down to, say, one island per week for the next 20 years — though I can't guarantee that kitchen islands won't have become obsolete (or somehow co-opted by the singularity) by 2036.

i have portable kitchen island right now with a wood top. careful with putting your roast yams on there, the skin is hard to get off. that's my kitchen island tip.

it would be neat if someone made a kitchen island out of antique cigar boxes and filled the shelves with French rolling pins so it looked like they were giant cigars

(I found a photo of a cigar box kitchen island, but it isn't mindblowing, so I don't feel comfortable posting it itt)

Tom: No. I needed the space inside for the cooktop and gas and electrical connections. For some reason, in my mind, it would be tacky if it still played. I know, some people probably think its tacky anyway. The biggest hurdle was that the piano was extremely heavy to get into the house.

after diving back into a bunch of minimal techno following the pfork IDM list, just discovered Deepchord Presents Echospace - Liumin. Great stuff here, dub/ambient techno, but there's a couple of tracks with deeply obscured disco samples that almost come out as vaporwaved house tracks. always finding more...
