Someone has uploaded all 13 hours of the BBCs 1992 general election coverage to Youtube and I've wasted most of today watching it.

Watching the 97 election coverage on youtube is weird because there are a fair number of people appearing who are still on TV/in the papers fairly regularly, but everyone is noticeably thinner/less haggard/less bald etc, it looks sort of like a movie based on the current news that has cast actors who are better looking than the people they're playing.

I've just noticed that I mistyped the title, it should read 'Thread for photos and discussion of British MPs from days gone by'

Is there anyone on ilx that knows about poetry who can tell me if Enoch Powell's poems are any good? I don't feel knowledgeable enough about poetry to tell if the poems are good or not.

There's a weird, quasi fascistic glamorisation of (obsession with) death in a lot of this stuff.

Is there any readable armchair psychoanalysis of Powell available anywhere?
Most of the stuff written about him seems to be by fanboys, I've read Paul Foot's penguin book about him, but that isn't really concerned with what made him tick.

how do you become smart if you are stupid? what would be a good first step?

Has anyone read any of Chris Mullin's collected diaries? The 2005-2010 collection has some interesting accounts of Parliamentary Labour Party meetings and anecdotes other people tell him, but Mullin's own opinions and observations tend to be quite dull/banal, I thought?

If anyone has an opinion re. the 'are Enoch Powell's poems are any good?' question above I'd be interested to hear it.
