What was the biggest difference in the approach of treating their patients between Freud and Charcot.

What a tremendous question. Charcot was, of course, simply a crackpot. On the other hand, Freud was the greatest mind of the 20th centruy, and a sex obsessed crackpot.

As is the case with most clinical words, it is popularly misused. Psychosis simply means a difficulty in distinguishing between your own reality and that of others.
