What if this person I know (who I swear is not me) had the most fucked up dream involving a very familiar psychological (and freudian) concept after delving into lots of freud for two days straight...

...and can't talk to their parents any more?

What should that person who is not me do?

Possibly, Nick. It seems to be the case that often times when there’s a fear of speaking confidentially with one’s parents, it’s due to unresolved oedipal issues— there is a fear of a betrayal of confidence with the mother/lover and a general fear of the father/rival.

I do like your advice; personally I prefer starting with brandy and a cigar, but then the situation often deteriorates into Patrón and lurking in AAD.
