they do? i dunno i don't have a penis but i have these dreams occasionally. only when certain things are happening. they are like a sexual anxiety counterpart to the "the final exam is today but i never went to class" dream. i didn't figure this out until pretty recently though.

The losing teeth = castration meme started with Freud, I think. He made it pretty clear:

...but it's a little ridiculous to take Siggy at face value in 2009, so sexual anxiety (or just anxiety in general) seems like a spot-on (and less phallocentric) interpretation.

my teeth dreams have only ever involved my teeth decaying until holes were left, or hanging by a thread. no extraction of teeth by another.

In the past few months I've had two dreams where I woke up from anesthesia during wisdom tooth extraction (minus the agonizing pain, thank god). I have a date with an oral surgeon in March, so I'm pretty paranoid about the whole thing.

funny u should ask, cabernet slobodan, because some of my teeth did not form correctly, including one in particular where i got a crown when i was 18. over christmas i had a horrendous toothache and i went to the dentist to get x-rays. she said it may be fractured and she expects that my tooth will crumble beneath the crown at some point and i will have to have it removed and an implant put in. (i want to know if i can get a gold-plated implant!). to me this was like a real "dream come true," but doesn't seem to be the cause of my teeth dreams. really they only come if i'm probably worrying about sex (o_O), even if i'm not fully conscious of my worries.

Aw, that sounds excruciating (and wickedly expensive). It sounds a little silly to lay down $500 for a crown that's likely to give you so little mileage, but I know next to nothing about such things. You should get a steel implant embedded with tiny diamonds so you can use it to sharpen knives and axes.

well i got the crown 6 years ago on my parents' dental insurance. but when i went she drilled a hole through it so it's no longer nice. just temporarily filled back in until the tooth starts hurting again and i need to have it cracked open completely. will def consider the steel implant. i guess they make them all out of porcelain but why not have a catalog where you can buy ones made of different materials, like titanium or cubic zirconium or LEAD.

maybe a carbon fiber implant so i can reduce the weight i'm carrying, without sacrificing strength

I had a dream about losing teeth a week ago. I've had it before. What the hell is wrong with Freud, how can Oedipus Complex or a Castration COmplex be at all relevant to today? Anxiety is definitely more likely knowing me. Freud is one part genius, 2 parts moron.

fuckfuckfuckfuck, so all 4 of my fully-formed wisdom teeth are coming out on May 1, which makes this my first surgery of my life and the first time I'll be under anesthesia. also the surgeon commented that I have a square jaw. was she hitting on me — y/n?

well, Dr. Harbl, I'm a-scared of the very real possibility that dislodged bone fragments will poke through my gums in the weeks or months following the tooth pulling, causing me much mental distress and possibly nightmares.
