What is an R rated film in the English rating?

'18'. No? I assume you mean in the UK.

If I've got this right, "R" is the rating where those who are 17 years of age and under can't enter without being accompanied by a parent or guardian? If that's the case, the equivelant of "R" in the UK ratings system is actually "PG". Of course, those films which get "R" in America would really be something like "12" or "15" or in the UK, where absolutely no-one under the ages of 12 or 15 are allowed to see it. (I don't think I explained that well, I hope you understand me.) I suppose NC-17 is the US equiv. of an "18" rating.

And there's also a new rating here called "12A", which complicates matters a little - it's some sort of strange mid-way point between "PG" and "12", anyone below the age of 12 has to be accompanied by an adult, or something, I'm not entirely sure. The first film to get this rating was "Spider-Man".

12A = anyone over the age of 12 has to be accompanied by a child.

More seriously, is R not the one used for proper porn, or is that something like 18R?
