for the last few weeks, it seemed like Anora could either win five Oscars or none. it would not have been surprising at all for it to lose to Conclave for picture and editing, for Baker to lose to Brady Corbet for director, and for Madison to lose to Demi Moore for best actress. but it won all five.

of course, i'm very curious to know how things would've shaken out had Sarah Hagi not dug up Karla Sofia Gascon's old tweets.

Does anyone besides me care about Best Live Action shorts? I expected A Lien to win, and was happily surprised I'm Not a Robot won.

I would care more if I'd seen them. I thought maybe Anuja would win because of the Mindy Kaling/Priyanka Chopra Jonas connection.

Conan did a fine job. The speeches from Baker and especially for No Other Land were excellent. And the overall ceremony seemed to actually care about filmmaking and film history a lot more than recent broadcasts. Good ceremony this year.

As I do every year, watched as much as I could stand--about 37% (had most of it on in another room). "Four-time Oscar viewer, Conan O'Brien" was great, ditto the bit with John Lithgow. I liked The Brutalist, so I was fine with Adrien Brody winning, but changed my mind the more he spoke--insufferable. The firefighter segment was good.

Brady Corbet's expression, when they cut to his reaction to Brody's speech, was pretty amazing

i wanted to act when i was younger but was grateful i never pursued it when i realized most actors are like that!!! so i became a writer, a profession with the exact same problem
