Secretary and Titus. (Former slow but charming, latter beautifully bloated.)

Waking Life, you can take it off your list but not for same reasons as first two I mentioned.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 16 June 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

If you really want to see them, then all of them. (Of course, as a huge Altman buff, I'm going to put my friendly nudge behind McCabe & Mrs. Miller...)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 16 June 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd say drop Panic Room, it's well-directed and acted but overblown and pretty pointless. But of course, if they all interest you, then see them all. If you want my personal recommendations, see Mishima and McCabe & Mrs. Miller.

I think a whole bunch of us are just going to look the other way until you see McCabe...

In the Bedroom is a interesting film, but the moral of the story is ultimately quite disturbing; I'm not saying anything else, since I don't want to spoil it for you if you decide to see the flick anyway.

Memories is worth seeing because of the third segment, but the other two segments are somewhat forgettable. Good entertainment, anyway.

Lilja 4-ever is kinda overrated. The film has good intentions, but the story is one-sided and overtly melodramatic. If you didn't like Dancer in the Dark, you probably won't like this one either, and for the same reasons.

Seul contre tous is somewhat artsy and pretentious, but it's still better than Irreversible.

Films in your list that are absolutely worth seeing: Coronación, Tonari no Totoro, Running Time, Seom.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Spider was interesting, but far from an essential watch.

Panic Room and In The Bedroom are both good but pretty forgettable, they'd make a decent rental but nothing more...

I thought Waking Life was shit, not even worth your time just to check out the unique visual look.

'better off dead' really isn't that great.

WHERE are you going to find a copy of 'zorn's lemma'? and can i see it when you do?

j fail (cenotaph), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Panic Room is fun. Watch it. You MUST see Better Of Dead. I would drop Titus and then step on it. Worst movie since Hook.

PVC (peeveecee), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Also Bottle Rocket and Mishima should jet to the top of the must column.

PVC (peeveecee), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Tonari no Totoro is also in my opinion, the best animated film of all time.

PVC (peeveecee), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

The other film I would get asap is Withnail and I. Just the mention has made me wanna see it again.

PVC (peeveecee), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Tonari no Totoro is also in my opinion, the best animated film of all time.

My words exactly!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, dude. Bottle Rocket.

Band of Brothers is "cinematic" cockswinging on the part of Spielberg and Hanks. Well done, tho.

jm (jtm), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

True JM--but I got more into BoB than Spielberg's war movies.

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

So did I.

jm (jtm), Thursday, 19 June 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Though it did have some really weak spots.

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 19 June 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
You must must must watch The Wicker Man. Begins like a very badly acted b-movie, mutates into one of the most disturbing films you will ever see. From what I've seen of Band of Brothers (much action, little dialogue/character development - hey, a bit like Saving Private Ryan!), I'd advise you ditch that.
