Alejandro Jodorowsky

I've seen El Topo and liked it very much. I just now finished The Holy Mountain, and while it seemed to be going somewhere, the whole "film/reality is an illusion" thing seemed a little too swarmy a way out of the hole. Plus, it's a freaking Jodorowsky film. Why does he need to bother to dig himself out at the end, anyway?

Well, on to Santa Sangre tomorrow, I guess.

i'll offer my opinion even though it wasn't asked - i don't like jodorowsky, cept for maybe fando y lis. i much prefer bunuel or arrabal for my surrealism.... but the holy mountain is enjoyable to me, perhaps semi-ironically.

I guess what I'd say is that I liked it until they came to the Table of the Immortals on the Holy Mountain.

And the call for opinions is implicit, j fail. ;)

i am pretty into holy mountain...or i have been although i've never tried to watch it "unaided". el topo on the other hand i really couldn't make it through. i've tried but i just kind of give up about half to two thirds of the way through...

LOVE Jodorowsky. "El Topo" is great in parts but "The Holy Mountain" is my fave. Love the whole glam aesthetic in the sets and costumes, and the entire scene where the seekers trip their brains out still gives me chills.

My first and only viewing of Holy Mountain was a 35mm print on the big screen and it was one of the most amazing cinema going experiences of my life. If you ever get the chance don't miss it. I vowed never to see the film again unless it was in a theatre.

El Topo was a repetetive drag (at least by comparison).

'i saw el topo tripping, it bummed my shit out '

LOL!

How does the transfer hold up ? I 've had a bootleg version of El Topo for years so this is pretty exciting.

The shorts within Holy Mountain are great. The actual quest for the Holy Mountain is mostly annoying.

otm. you can feel the narrative encroaching into the interesting stuff until by the end it's like 'yeah whatever'(cf. Girolamo's comment to start). still very nice overall.
