T3 - Can anyone explain why... (SPOILERS)

Can anyone explain why the events in T3 even take place? Surely the destruction of the arm and the chip (found in the factory from T1) that takes place in T2 means there is no SkyNet?
I mean, in T2 we're told all the studies were based on the discovery of those two artefacts...and all the labs were blown up.
T3 doesn't explain ANYTHING, beyond Arnie's assertion that it's inevitable. Why is it? It was wrapped up in T2. If you follow the logic of the previous films, the T-101 or whatever model he is shouldn't even exist.
(I thought T3 was rubbish.)

Well, based on that logic, then everything that happens in T2 should mean that Reese doesn't end up meeting John, b/c the machines never rise up. Therefore, he can't go back in time and can't be John's father. So essentially, all the time travel is why everything is happening to begin with - the whole film is about fatalism - how no matter what each side tries to do to stop one another before the war, all they're doing is actually setting up that future they are trying to destroy.

It would have been interested if they'd explored that in the film, ie all the efforts of T2 simply ironed themselves out and that's why a similar mission had to be carried out by both sides in T3.

well, you know that all of the terminator parts were not destroyed in number 2. a piece was neglected in john connor's shirt pocket if that makes any difference.
