I'm concentrating mainly on Funny Games and Harry, He's Here To Help, also mentioning Svankmajer's Faust. Earlier examples so far are thin on the ground (obviously Cool Hand Luke, but the only other ones people have suggested are things like Airplane and Ghostbusters, which is not exactly the direction I was looking for but may have to do). I may also change 'thriller' simply to 'cinema' for the sake of ease of definition.
