I loved the Muppet movies.

My brother seriously thought that Spaceballs was the best movie of all time.

Definitely Indiana Jones. He still makes me go "wheee!!" when I see him on screen.

Back to the Future and definitely Ghostbusters.

I remember that I was only allowed to rent one movie every Saturday at this local rental place in Milwaukee before there was any Blockbuster around. They had everything in VHS, Beta, and even some in SECAM. I rented Ghostbusters for something ridiculous like 13 weeks in a row - enough that the store bought a second VHS copy so that other people could check it out on weekends. You would've thought that my parents would have caught on and bought a copy after, what, five weeks?

And yeah, watching it again recently on DVD, I definitely missed most of the jokes.

How 'bout The Neverending Story. (By the way, The Neverending Story - Part 2...most ironic title ever, don't you think?)

Anthony (Anthony F), Thursday, 2 October 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Labyrinth, Back to the Future, and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

I think my very first favorite film must've been Ghostbusters, and then Beetlejuice... then Poltergeist and eventually Creepshow. Whatever order those four came in, they were basically my trifecta (the four became three because Ghostbusters was indeed the first one I loved and then the first one I got tired of eventually).

yes anthony, definetely neverending story! followed closely by The Goonies...both preserved a mythical status in my memory since I didn't saw them as an adult...but maybe I should rent them one of these days.
I had the opportunity to check Neverending story only last year and was
incredibly disappointing.

two weeks pass...
Wizard of Oz, I'd guess. Ok, I'm not THAT old.....the movie was made 7 years before I was born, but I did manage to see it at least once a year and cherished those viewings up to adulthood.

I still love the magic of that movie and wonder if one of the reasons I never quite got caught up in the "Star Wars" thing was that, early on, some critics were comparing it to Oz. When I went to see SW's, I was flabbergasted anyone would make that comparison.

ed dill (eddill), Monday, 3 November 2003 07:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I had one movie that I forced my parents to let me watch over and over a la the anecdotes we so often hear today ("Little Nemo, Little Nemo, Little Nemo!" etc); although I remember watching Flight Of The Navigator compulsively. I also liked Lucas, Return To Oz, The Black Hole, Rats Of Nimh, Harry And The Hendersons, etc., but didn't see them until later. When they were young children, most of my friends got a dose of Bambi for empathy's sake, unfortunately when I was 4 I saw Snow White instead which scared the shit out of me!

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Monday, 10 November 2003 07:02 (twenty-one years ago)

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 13 December 2003 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, the teasing I endured from schoolyard pricks demanding I bring them to my house to see Harry.
