In Francis Xavier Cross' office, there's a sign hanging over the window. What does that sign say? I'll be damned if I can remember the words, but I do remember that it was funny. Or something...
(Francis Xavier Cross is Bikk Murray's character, by the way).
Thanx!

this holds up reasonably well, thanks to murray and support (esp taxi driver ghost). love story clumsy, leaves allen underutilised.

Given that it was written by Michael O'Donaghue, it's shocking that the love story didn't climax with someone's brutal demise.

given that cross is a severely unhinged manic type i'm sure we can imagine what happens next

David Johansen as the cab driver is too funny in this. It's one of our holiday movie trifecta, along with Bad Santa and the MST3K Santa Claus.

OL, O'Donoghue disowned and loathed the candyass element of the final product.

That makes much more sense.

Caught this on commercial TV last night; my first viewing since I was a kid. Predictably, it doesn't hold up (I'm not sure I even liked it all that much at the time anyhow), but the whole Ghost of Christmas Future bit is a surprisingly great piece of filmmaking: the grim reaper with a TV screen for a face, the Caligari-like art direction, Karen Allen's creepy make-up...I know that the original script was severely neutered, but if this wasn't going to be the outrageous comedy that was originally conceived, there are traces here of what could have at least been a helluva horror film.

My brain was scrambling to answer the exact question the OP posed as soon as I saw the thread revive. Such a great gag.
I wasn't crazy about this movie when it first came out but it has proven to be more a grower than a shower and now I love it and I watch it pretty much every Christmas.

The appearance of the much funnier (and much warmer) National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation a year after this film probably saved me from this inferior product becoming my go-to contempo, semi-adult Christmas pic of choice for many years to follow.
