I think Psycho '98 is one of the best movies of that decade, if for no other reason than it's one of the most fascinating filmic experiments ever conducted.

I read Van Sant wants to remake it again, but this time set in the 80's punk rock scene in L.A. I really hope that happens.

short ans: the fact of the film is extraordinarily resilient to me – lo tho i may heap spite on many of the choices made in it (and i have), over the long term these complaints always turn back into minor quibbles, transcended by the still-exciting and interesting and funny idea of a shot-for-shot remake of psycho existing.

even funnier = two remakes obviously (i've rooted for the punk version on ILE already)

It is a fascinating experiment concept but the execution has many flaws. Primarily, the miscasting of macho Vince Vaughn in the role of introvert Norman Bates is the biggest mistake. Also, the inclusion of the masturbation sound effects completely removes Norman's motivation to kill. The cinematography is gorgeous; this aspect alone will no doubt enocurage me to watch the film if I ever catch it on television.
We should be pleased overall that the very unpredictability of Gus Vant Sant has made the narrative film world just a bit more interesting.
