Vital deconstructionist or inconsequential hack?

american psycho was pretty sharp i thought. the warhol picture was a bit muddled but not awful for a first feature – to me the taylor/harris/plimpton 1-2-3 casting punch makes up for the seams showing on the acting side here & there – it may be more of a 90's picture than a 60's picture but i'd sooner watch it again than the one about the fuckin Doors (crispin glover - 1991est warhol ever)

TS: Crispin Glover's vs. David Bowie's vs. Jared Harris's Andy Warhols.

I thought Lili Taylor was great. I would want her for my movie.

bowie's warhol is the schnabelest!! part of what i prefer about harris's is that he has the least to gain persona-wise from rubbing elbows with warhol's ghost – i realise this probably makes him the least "warholian" choice or something but whatever – it means he gets to play him as more than just product-placement.

i should add: harron's movie seemed more confused than it meant to be about Solanas herself – i think the title does all the work there is to be done on that front really – but it did a surprisingly good job of de-fabbing the factory scene. i remember being pretty struck last time i saw it by how well the blandness and schoolyard awfulness of art-scene power stuff came across in little details + gestures. (Basquiat pretended to do this too but really how could/why would it? nevermind the oldman-as-schnabel giveaway – you WISH buddy!!)

both her movies are definitely worthwhile. American Psycho the movie actually does some - not all - but SOME things better than the book (it's much less repetitive for one thing), which is pretty dang impressive for an adaptation. And she's great with leads so far.
