well...simple as that.

Classic of Dud?

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

For a Mel Brooks film, classic. For a film in general, not really that classic.

Oh wait, my gf is telling me it's classic. So, yeah. Classic.

super-classic!!!

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 6 December 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

dud, as are most Mel Brook's films.

ryan (ryan), Saturday, 6 December 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it at least Brooks best film?

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Saturday, 6 December 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd say Blazing Saddles there.

Girolamo Savonarola, Sunday, 7 December 2003 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It's his "best" movie, tho not his funniest (I like Silent Movie and actually History of the World Part I a bit better). Either way, tho, classic.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Sunday, 7 December 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's funniest, I do not like this blazing saddles

s1utsky (slutsky), Sunday, 7 December 2003 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic. I'm gonna say it's his best, especially since Blazing Saddles appeals a little less each time I see it (also now I keep imagining Richard Pryor in the role). Though they forgot to give Dom DeLuise a role.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 7 December 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

For me it would go:

1. The Producers
2. Young Frankenstein
3. Blazing Saddles
4. High Anxiety
5. History Of The World

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and i like Spaceballs and Silent Movie too. I can remember watching Silent Movie as a kid and laughing like a maniac at the sight of the merry-go-round horse pooping out wooden blocks. But that's me.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Young Frankenstein is his funniest far and away, and bridges nicely the conventional narrative Producers-era movies and the gag-based ones--of which Spaceballs is the goofiest example. How can anyone not think this is one of the funniest movies ever?
S1utsky, you should mention here your idea about how Young Frankenstein invented the Simpsons.

Jesus, I just watched History of the World Part I again this weekend to see if it actually held up to what my memory was telling me and it did... and then some. "The Inquisition" sequence is probably the best thing he ever filmed, even if it's a little self-consciously ripping off his own "Springtime for Hitler" in spirit. Dom DeLuise as Nero is perfection. And why didn't Brooks cast Bea Arthur more often?

Eric H. (Eric H.), Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Too busy mooning after Madeleine Kahn?

Leee Marvin (Leee), Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

and Cloris Leachman.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
it is by far and away a classic. hands down.
