Mel Brooks' life story, with the 79-year-old Brooks playing himself at every stage of his life: baby, teen, middle-age, etc. It'll be hit-larious!

Richard Pryor's life story, with the wheelchair-bound Pryor playing himself at every stage of his life: baby, teen, middle-age, on fire, etc. I see money.

Here's what I want:

Denis Leary:The Ref::Eddie Izzard:______________

Speaking of which, is there some international film law that Denis Leary is allowed to do ANYTHING in a film except be funny? I don't even mean that he's not funny...he's not given anything to be funny with! Izzard, I fear, seems to be falling on that path to a degree. Some minor snortling in Velvet Goldmine, but I pretty much have avoided most of his other stuff like the plague because it's too damn serious (relatively) for him and mostly just shlock.

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 6 January 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The answer could be that they're both not very good actors (although EI is classic stand-up). Leary is okay as the overdoser in Jesus's Son, tho'.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to remake First Blood. Black & white, handheld, dogma-stylee, ultra-violent. Somebody like Billy Crudup playing Rambo. Oh yes. Pretentious Neil Young - Dead Man/Sonic Youth-Demonlover type score.....

David Nolan (David N.), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to see The Ref remade minus "the heart" and set in LA. With Don Rickles in the Dennis Leary role (instead of a burglar he would be their psychotic building manager in a high tech futuristic apartment highrise) and Ben Affleck and J-Lo (playing themselves) as the couple. In the end Rickles would beat them both to death with an aluminum baseball bat in slo-mo to the strains of "don't come around here no more" while weeping tears of joy. Jeff Goldblum cameos as the robot doorman. John Landis directs.

An adaptation of "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt that plays as dark comedy. The first-person narrator is revealed to be unreliable, and is actually a self-obsessed blowhard. We lose the incest, play Bunny for maximum laughs, make Henry more likeable, and voila! A morality play about the dangers of being a pseudo-intellectual twat.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 9 January 2004 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

PVC: I love the Rickles idea ! J-Lo, Affleck, great choice for the couple we'd most like to see beaten to death with a bat (fallback choices: Liza-David Gest, Nic Cage-Lisa Marie, Jane Fonda and whoever), but nix to such a downbeat score... Can't we go with "Bang on the Drum all day" by Todd Rundgren ? People will leave the theater in a peppy mood ! Otherwise I greenlight this idea, have your people talk to my people, 3.5 mill is the highest I could possibly go and I'd like to open in Venice just because the hookers there are so cute.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 21 September 2006 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

That reminds me of the (brilliant IMHO) idea that Tracer Hand had on one of the ILE Umbrellas of Cherbourg threads about doing a hip hop remake, with Usher as the diamond dealer.
