here's a fun one--match film director to his/her correlary in the other major arts.

an example--

John Cassavettes is to film as....
Charles Bukowski is to the novel, as...
Tom Waits is to popular music, as....
Jackson Pollock is to painting.

Jean-Luc Godard is to film as...
Bob Dylan is to music as...
Andy Warhol is to painting as...
___________ is to the novel/poetry.

That's a tough one, given that all three have gone through various phases creatively -- what came to my mind was:

When JLG discovered video
When Dylan discovered an amp
When Warhol discovered a soup can.....then would Joyce fit the bill? Maybe Burroughs, or is that too obvious?

joyce or burroughs...damn, those are both good. i originally thought ginsberg or ferlingetti, but they don't quite work for me.

How about Hunter S. Thompson discovers Gonzo journalism? "Buy the ticket, take the ride..."

of course, Hunter's semantic approach is not as steeped in symbolism. in fact, maybe warhol's a bad choice too.
