Haven't felt much strong desire to see it. Have you?

Keira Knightley is the sexiest tomboy beanpole on the planet.

Sorry I couldn't help it.

I don't know which character she played. I liked it a lot. I wonder what you all think of this genre overall: the girl (it's usually a girl) triumphs over her anti-assimilationist parents, wins the heart of non-ethnic boy. I mean the movie is very careful not to make anything that would appear to be an aggressive assimilationist argument, but. . . . I really like this story, especially when it's told pretty well as here.

I haven't seen it. I'm a hypocrite, as in I tend to avoid British films. I'm surprised it seems to have quite a profile in the US, seeing as you don't usually like our movies (fair enough) or our favourite sport (your loss). I suppose the ethnic identity subject is pretty universal, though - I'm assuming the film is more about this than victory on the football field or prejudices towards female athletes?

The actors were all really likeable and it seemed like it'd be a fun picture to make; it felt a bit padded, though, a few too many soccer montages and drummed-up romantic intrigue. It was less sitcommy than "Greek Wedding", but also lacked anything as bizarre as that rant about the tumor/twin. It probably helped that I saw it with my "anti-assimilationist-but-improving" Indian parents.

I enjoyed it, tho there's nothing especially memorable about it ('cept perhaps for Keira Knightley, "the sexiest tomboy beanpole on the planet" :) )

pleasnat enuf teen movie, was ok, did not understand the raves.

Well, did understand the raves - teen movie 'bout Indian family that is a 'Moonstruck', 'Crossing Delancey', 'Big Fat greek wedding' etc but watered down. Hell, I loved 'Monsoon Wedding' but this was a watered down version of that which was, in itself, a watered down version of Bollywood films.

Basically a cute teen movie that also gave ppl the feeling of looking into another world. Fun, but as I said, raves out of proporion to what was on screen.

I think you get at least one brit movie a year that gets attn in the US so I don't think its that surprising.

A fun little movie with admirable motives and pretty actresses to look at. No more, but that's not a bad thing.
