Me - Gohatto. I really liked it.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 28 April 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Desperado on cable. Reminded me of just how much I liked it, and saddened me a little that I don't think Rodriguez has improved any since -- he makes movies that are a bit more polished, and he's not really worse, but he's not stretching himself much.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I have great respect for the man, but I'm not keen on his movies.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Desperado is just a very nicely done action movie, I think -- well-shot, well set-up, the twist isn't entirely out of nowhere -- but he's neither gone back to that, really, nor moved to more complicated material. I mean, Spy Kids is a great kids' movie, but it doesn't quite manage to be "a great movie which happens to be kid-appropriate."

Then again, he avoided the Tarantino crash-and-burn.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw two films on Saturday: He Who Gets Slapped, with Lon Chaney; and The Ox-Bow Incident, with Henry Fonda.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Spirited Away. Just gorgeous.

ryan, Monday, 28 April 2003 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw 8 Mile last night.

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

And there's lots I want to talk about it. What do you people think, should I go back to the old ILE thread or start a new one here?

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Start a thread here!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

everyone should start a thread now

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Uhh, I already went back and commented on ILE. Sorry about that.

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"Don't Look Now" on DVD yesterday afternoon with the lady... doesn't exactly make me wanna hit Venice anytime soon...

absolute skittles, Monday, 28 April 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

last night I saw "All or Nothing", two days ago I saw: "Repo Man" and "Wild Zero". Wild Zero was totally incredible. It's the Zombie movie Guitar Wolf made, and if anyone gets the chance see it. Guitar Wolf is soooooo coooooooool!!!!!

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I know Guitar Wolf! There's a Guitar Wolf movie???

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That was a real rock n roll movie night, Nairn.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

"I know Guitar Wolf! There's a Guitar Wolf movie??? " yes and it's all you would expect and more, "That was a real rock n roll movie night" actually I saw Repo Man in the afternoon but the Guitar Wolf movie was all about Rock and Roll (and it's amazing power to kill zombies)

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 28 April 2003 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Barbershop. Was OK, pretty good as a rental, and Cedric the Entertainer's performance seemed completely great to me, the "Rosa Parks" speech especially well-acted

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I rented the Lawnmower Man. Fucking hilarious. Pierce Brosnan plays straight his campy character in Mars Attacks. The opening of the movie concerns a hyper intelligent chimp dressed like Robocop. It's all about the glory of VIRTUAL REALITY. Some of the cheesiest use of special effects since The Last Dragon.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I watched Stanley Kubrick's The Killing for a paper on noir that got scrapped (I went with "subverting the war genre," Three Kings vs. Saving Private Blech).

If I get time tonight, I'm going to put in Y Tu Mama Tambien or the Opposite of Sex.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i waited to answer this so i could say "an ornette coleman trio doc" instead of big trouble in little china

jones (actual), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I'm about to watch Jackass, everything be damned.

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I just saw Better Luck Tommorrow the other night, at a midnite screening I went to all by myself. Was so looking forward to it..

Major disappointment. Another boring exercise in temporal non-linearity and warmed-over-voiced-over episodic exposition, an overhyped overglorification of violence, a waste of potential in regards to articuating the struggles of Asian-American youth: a film obviously made by a Tarantino-apprentice who idealized him/his style a wee bit too much to the detriment of crafting a story in which the spectator would actually CARE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS - but how could you, when they were all either so despicable or shallow to start with? Even the chick, gosh. Why were there no parental figures in the film, a glaring hole in its aims towards depicting anything even aimlessly close to realism? I just wanted it to end 1/4th of the way through.

Last great film I saw for the first time: Network

Vic, Tuesday, 29 April 2003 05:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Intacto - this movie about very lucky people who become so by absorbing other people's luck and have showdowns with each other where
they play russian roulette and run through traffic. the whole thing
was done with this quasi-lynch moodiness (funny-looking extras, nightmare americana) and very serious, so i left it sort of wishing they had played up the highlander analogies of its goofy premise at least a bit.

dave k, Tuesday, 29 April 2003 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days - promising screwball set-up and Kate Hudson channelling her mothers comic genius let down by consertive return to chick flick form in the last half. Lost opportunity, it didn't trust itself enough.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking of lost opportunites, I thought Intacto was a total dud. I genuinely want my money back.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I rented Rabbit-Proof Fence and What Time Is It There? last weekend. RPF was predictable in its virtuousness and not even that exciting as a narrative; I thought WTIIT was tedious in parts (maybe because I watched it at midnight) but found much to admire (each frame is beautifully composed) and would almost like to see it again, to spot some of the thematic connections I missed.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

What Time probably needs to be seen on a big screen as with Tsai's other films, because of the detail in the long takes (that talented fish!) and the rich chiaroscuro lighting. I like Tsai's slapstick-in-slow-motion shtick but the overall conceits of his films seem silly, uninteresting. Or rather that they are held together only by conceits (the Paris/Taipei connections of What Time, the upstairs-downstairs apartments as well as the flashy dance numbers amidst squalor in The Hole) becomes a limit to how much I can identify with the characters, imagine them as real human beings. I think Tsai's features are notable for making great use of real Taipei locations (a function of his low budgets--his films hardly have any audiences in Taiwan).

He was at the Chicago International Film Festival a few years ago, and after the screening an audience member asked a terribly-phrased question: "So what was that movie about anyway?" Tsai threw it back at him--"What do you think it was about?" -- and the poor guy came up with, "Time, identity, place," etc. Tsai was clearly enjoying torturing him. Otherwise he seemed like a gentleman.

Gosh I'm "talkative" today.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it. Shame I've got to get going soon.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The fish totally ruled. Yeah, that's the only Tsai film I've seen. Rented it on a whim, though I knew of his reputation. It certainly makes me interested in his others.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Laurel Canyon.

Tonight we are going to watch Battle Royale.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

actually i watched the second harry potter film with my girlfriend's mom and 14-year old sister. i liked it better than the first.

j fail (cenotaph), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I watched episode 1 of Fantômas again last night. I can't wait for episode 2:

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

bulletproof monk: leave yr brane at the gate but enjoyable.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Welcome to Collinwood. Apalling. I had to review it. Chris Tookey and Phillip French were there, arguing about their favourite long take. French mentioned some obscure Sturges film and Tookey something by Blake Edwards. I'm seeing X-2 on Friday. Yay! I am excited.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Amateurist, I saw Cruel Story Of Youth last night. We need to get talking.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

went with friends to "old school", which was pretty much the worst movie i've ever seen. before that it was "talk to her", which was gorgeous.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

haha Welcome to Collinwood. I live in Collinwood!

Last movie I saw was One Hour Photo. Didn't work for me as a stalker flick but it worked very well as 'alienated retail worker' parable.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

At the cinema: Bulletproof Monk.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Identity. It's a crisis, can't you see! I was hoping they'd find some way to throw that song in there, but no. It was an OK creepy psycho/slasher thriller. Nothing out of the ordinary. John Cusack better than he's been lately. Clea Duvall beautiful and neurotic, as usual. The twists weren't entirely unexpected, but I didn't mind.

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Jackass. I don't wanna talk about it.

slutsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Malpertuis. after many, many years of searching. but the version i obtained appears to have been hacked up indifferently (and/or recorded from an edited airing on some Spanish channel). does anyone know if Harry Kumel's "director's cut," which the BBC screened not too long ago, is/will become available somewhere?

summerslastsound (summerslastsound), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

College, the Buster Keaton movie; part of the 10-DVD box of Keaton's features I have, trying to wind my way through all of them.

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I have that set too, and haven't yet watched everything on it. The Keaton Plus DVD has many wonderful things on it, notably John Bengtson's interactive essay on California locations used in Keaton's films.

One my favorite moments in Keaton's films is in College, where Buster obligingly tips over the last hurdle after having knocked all the other ones down by accident.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Lies the korean art-house S&M thing. it grated. wasn't particularly erotic or insightful about sex/body/drive/repression/etcetcetc either.

Honda (Honda), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

real life - albert brooks. i wonder if i would have enjoyed it more if i was a little older and had seen it when it was made, shortly after the pbs special it was spoofing (??)

i enjoyed the first section (the setup) much more than when the actual "real life" filming started.

i hadn't realized that reality TV was so old, and would like to see that pbs show

ron (ron), Thursday, 1 May 2003 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

x-men 2 was k-neat.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

All the way back to Adaptation, which was certainly full of flaws, but right up my street.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 3 May 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

On cable: A Day at the Races. The Marx Brothers, at their best, were a national treasure.

In a theater: Laurel Canyon.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 4 May 2003 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Dream Life of Angels which I thought captured really well the real-actual quiet desperation of life a lot better than Lilya 4-Ever's histrionics (note: I also really really liked Lilya, and "histrionics").

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 4 May 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

punch drunk love at the cinema. thought adam sandler was so great and the way he flips out totally reminded me of my brother.

other recent films ive seen: Princess mononoke (brilliant), spirited away (didn't like it), Internal affairs (with tony leung& andy lau. a pretty cool OTT Triad flick).

Lid, Sunday, 4 May 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Last night, saw a BenAffleck-saves-the-world-in-Tom-Clancy-adaptation. Meh, very predictable. And so enthralling that I've forgotten its name a day later.

I saw part of Harry Potter two, but didn't think much of it. Hence seeing only part of it.

I'm going to see The Ring this week though...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Sunday, 4 May 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

This weekend - X Men 2, 25th Hour, Rabbit-Proof Fence, and The Quiet American.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 5 May 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I watched episode 2 of Fantômas.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 5 May 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Besides the stuff on that Disney thread I watched Wall Street.

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 5 May 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I watched a few minutes at the beginning and got caught up in a strange western called "Warlock" on the Fox movie channel that starred Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark, and Anthony Quinn. The feeling of the movie was somewhere in between western, film noir and proto-spaghetti western.

Strange story of Fonda as a hired gun keeping peace in a town that the deputy keeps getting offed by a gang, who is friends with a coniving gambler played by Quinn and Widmark steps up and becomes the town sheriff (i.e. the true law) and a weird power play errupts. A few odd actors in bit parts show up like DeForrest Kelley and Frank Gorshin.

It definitely is not "Shane" and is quite a strange and dark movie for a western made in 1959.

I looked it up on the All Movie site and it was directed by Edward Dmytryk who did the "The Young Lions", "The Caine Mutiny" and the dark and strange "Raintree County".

earlnash, Tuesday, 6 May 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm watching Straw Dogs now. But it's on one of the showtime channels, not widescreen.

I guess this one's next up on my Criterion purchase list.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

In the theatre: Punch-Drunk Love. A really simple idea: take the plotline and characters of a Hollywood romantic comedy and play them as straight and deep as you can. In the event, that turns out not to be too straight or deep on any level except as film criticism, but it's a very enjoyable film with terrific acting.

On the teevee: Seven, which I have seen several times, but always dubbed into English. The last minute or two always seem very tacked-on to me (especially becuase I am beginning to think that it's Morgan Freeman's character's envy that is being punished, not that of Kevin Spacey's character), but this movie is emotionally very effective -- not least because Gwynnith Paltrow in this flick reminds me of my wife.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Saw Risky Business last night.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

(That should have been "dubbed into German").

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

everyone needs to hear keanu say "vaya con Dios" every now and then

Chip Morningstar (bob), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

rented the dangerous lives of altar boys last night. i now have a major pervy crush on kieran culkin. help!

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

second X-Men film. RoXoR.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i now have a major pervy crush on kieran culkin. help!

He's definitely turned out better than Macaulay, that's fer sure. That said, I would warn you against renting Igby Goes Down, but I think some folks here actually liked it. (I can't imagine why.)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks for the warning, but i already had to sit through that clunker. granted i saw it on a turbulent flight which clearly interferes with enjoyment/concentration, but feh.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

If you liked Catcher in the Rye, you'll probably like Igby.

I didn't care about either. I couldn't even dislike them - I just don't care about the troubles of the world's poor little rich kids.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

X-Men 2, five hours ago. I need to see all films Brian Cox was in right now.

Igby is great when you see it in cinema with an audience that likes the film. But then so is The New Guy. I enjoyed both actually, but I'm pretty sure a second viewing would kill them dead.

Frühlingsmute (Wintermute), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Brian Cox is my god. Fruhlingsmute -- Have you seen L.I.E. (where Cox plays a pedophile)?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 00:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Last Movie Seen in the Theater-Better Luck Tommorow I sort of felt like i had seenit before but Parry Shen was really good as the main character ben.
Last DVD seen-death to smoochy-Yeah...um I think this was a joke that no one got or something.

Eve, Wednesday, 7 May 2003 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you seen L.I.E.

I will. It's going to be released around here a month from now.

Frühlingsmute (Wintermute), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Manhunter is a must as well. I thought Cox was much more sinister and creepy as Lecter than Anthony Hopkins.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Cox was a great Lecter! I mean, obviously Demme et al were going for a much more gothic style, and I appreciate that, but I really think the man can do no wrong. Brian Cox that is.

slutsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

my fave thing about manhunter is the totally inappropriate beachy neon hawaii font they use on the opening credits

Chip Morningstar (bob), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The chase scene in Manhunter to "In A Gadda Da Vida" was quite good.

William Petersen did this movie and "To Live & Die in L.A." then he dissapeared for ten years until that show came on TV (or at least I can't remember him being in anything).

earlnash, Wednesday, 7 May 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw "Russian Ark". I really enjoyed it.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Petersen is so good in Manhunter, so so so much better than Ed Norton in the remake.

slutsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Just saw The Man Without a Past, and I was very charmed by it. A likeable movie, and kind of old fashioned (who makes movies about Charity anymore?) Also, it looked very pretty.

slutsky (slutsky), Thursday, 8 May 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Thin Red Line", "The Last Picture Show".

Cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 8 May 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

God, this movie The In-Laws. What a fucking awful movie. Though it did neatly skewer those most elusive comedic bullseyes: ethnic food, air travel, and homosexuals.

slutsky (slutsky), Friday, 9 May 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I watched the DVD from the Danish Film Institute of their partial-restoration of Dreyer's Der var engang ("Once upon a Time") from 1922. The whole thing was believed lost until recently, when about half of the footage was discovered. The missing sections are made up for by stills and intertitles filling in the plot holes.

Most extraordinary there is an unedited roll from a particular scene. You can watch actors flubbing their parts and talking to the camera. I've never seen unedited footage of this vintage. It's pretty cool.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 9 May 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

The My Man Godfrey DVD has some of that blooper reel stuff (I know it's from later, but it's still funny to see Carole Lombard flub a line, swear, and crack up)

slutsky (slutsky), Friday, 9 May 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

WILD GUITAR is pretty outrageous. I enjoyed it allot.

The last film I saw was X2. 4/5 stars. Arguably the best comic adaptation... but my heart belongs to BLADE.

PVC (peeveecee), Friday, 9 May 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Blade is up there on my comic-book adaptation list (which I didn't even know i had until now). But also SUPERMAN!

slutsky (slutsky), Friday, 9 May 2003 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Theatre: The Pianist. I'm not totally in concert with the heaps of praise for it, but it was pretty good. One thing about autobiopics that is slightly annoying is how they almost always seem to go from episode to episode (here's one interesting story, now here's another, etc.) instead of a more unified approach (am I making any sense?). The matte painting of the whole block of demolished buildings was SO WELL DONE. I want a poster of that shot.

DVD: Princess Mononoke. This time, the non-English-dubbed version, thank goodness. I don't want to think "Hey, that's Scully!" or "Oh no, Minnie Driver! Her face scares me!" when I'm indulging in Miyazaki.

Ernest P. (ernestp), Friday, 9 May 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

L'Homme Du Train - I think if I was French I would have appreciated the iconic status of Johnny Halliday more. A quite enjoyable film.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 9 May 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
I lay around at home like a slob and watched The Apostle, The Exterminating Angel, Elling, and The Night Porter.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Last few: Great Expectations (Lean), Stolen Kisses, High and Low, and Kadosh. I liked them all quite a bit except for Kadosh, which was a bit punishing the way it was filmed. But that probably was part of the point of the film. Either way, I don't think it'll be something I'll be dying to see again anytime soon.

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 19 August 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I should add that I enjoyed the first three enough, but The Night Porter (which I had been looking forward to) was pretentious, contrived crap. And yes, Bob Duvall was extremely watchable in The Apostle.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Suspira

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Last Video Seen-"The Royal Tenenbaums" yesterday, which I liked alot, altough I still think "Rushmore" says more to me.

Last film seen in an actual theatre-Altman's "3 Women" (in repertory). I was really excited to see this, altough after it was over, I found myself respecting it more than I actually liked it. That said though, I can't wait to see it again.

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeff-PTTL, I almost rented Suspiria just now, but I got Profundo Rosso instead. I am not really familair with Dario Argento's stuff, so I'm looking forward ro it.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

The Rules of Attraction, eh.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 22 August 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

This Sporting Life .

It's nice to see Richard Harris in a film where he isn't just taking the money and running. Great rugby scene, almost rollerball-esque in their violence. as a whole the film is a bit long, but fundamentally enjoyable.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 24 August 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The Princess and the Warrior - I like Twyker actually slowing down a slight bit, but at times it seems like he's too obsessed with the visuals. That being said, I think this is better than Run Lola Run

Branded to Kill - I think I definitely will watch more of Seijun Suzuki's films. Hilarious, over-the-top, inspired. "I am #1!"

The Emperor and the Assassin - Chen Kaige taking on the epic = me like very much. It does sometimes come off a little bit too stilted, but I very much enjoyed the way the characters completely realign themselves without it ever seeming too forced or too illogical. Sympathetic and immense.

Girolamo Savonarola, Sunday, 24 August 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

tonight - Real Genius (it was ok.)
last night - Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (it was awesome but awful.)
