It's about damn time.

What a world--"Going Overboard" with Adam Sandler has been out on DVD for years, yet masterpieces like LDV still have yet to be released.

Being an experimental/underground film lover, I'm used to this kind of thing, though.

Coffee & Cigarettes is also released today, although both will be blown away by the mammoth that is Star Wars. I know people who were picking up their reserved copies at 12 a.m. this morning. C'mon, people. Even I didn't go that nuts when they released the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition.

I just watched this on video for work, and am all ready to see it again all nice and digital. I can see why it has its critical detractors, but it's just so engaging. That Fellini touch.

"I just watched this on video for work,"

You get to watch Fellini for work? Wanna trade jobs?

Uh, no.

I got this over the weekend, along with Bunuel's Robinson Crusoe , which is excellent. LDV looks and sounds great, but other than the Fellini TV stuff, which is pretty bizarre, the extra features on the 2nd DVD are a bit skimpy.

Yellow sub-titles on a b&w film = grrrrrrrrr.

Also, I like the English dubs of a lot of Italian movies from this period. The 8 1/2 one is particularly good (on my beloved VHS) and the translation is illuminating. Also, many of the voices were from the actual actors in the roles - and since the Italian language versions were dubs too, I don't see why they don't include this track. It's authenticity taken too far!

two weeks pass...
Actually, I did turn the color down on the TV and, while annoying, worked perfectly (no image degradation). The transfer is really wonderful; and as with any really good transfer, I felt like I was watching it for the first time. Also, Anouk Aimee is truly the most beautiful woman who ever lived.
