Yeah nice cinematography, but I think recent movies like The Sixth Sense, The Devil's Backbone and Dark Water have done the spooky supernatural theme better.

it's well made - you know, it does the shocks well, is very good for generating a creepy atmosphere, etc. But ultimately it's not that good. Once they start working out what's going on it becomes a bit cumbersome, and the end, while striking, is irrelevant to the rest of the film.

is this the pang brothers film? or is there some japanese version i don't know about.

the narrrative was tired ghost story material but they filled it rather elegantly. it's not really distinguished and the ending tries but really had its niche carved out for it ahead of time. plus the strikingness of it is ultimately rather lukewarm given how things turn out.

I enjoyed this film, especially the wonderful scenes at the end. It's got quite a good story I think, better than most horror films. Much better than complete crap like My Little Eye, Jeepers Creepers et al.

I think I just read somewhere that Tom Cruise bought the rights for a re-make. You can cry now if you want.

Pang Bros - Thai / Hong Kong co-prod. V enjoyable, some good ideas, not perfect. Excellent first ten minutes.
