Does anybody else love these movies??

box of moonlight is definitely in my top 5. it's hard for me to describe, i just love the feel of the movie. i like the random visual elements (burning chair, the half-trailer, obv. the backwards things) that give things a surreal, fairytale vibe. it seems to mainly be about becoming happy.

i get some of that other worldly vibe off living in oblivion as well.

long standing working relationship with keener is a big plus. lots of great actors in these movies - lisa blount and sam rockwell in b.o.m., james legros, steve buscemi, kevin corrigan in oblivion...

the real blonde was a great movie, i need to see that again. johnny suede i didn't like so much. double whammy was pretty good but i think denis leary kind of killed it for me.

any thoughts?

Love him... thanks for reminding me about Double Whammy, I have yet to see that.

Box Of Moonlight is the best "feel good" movie maybe ever. And The Real Blonde was very cute. Johnny Suede and Living in Oblivion I think are minor classics of 90's independant cinema.

one of my favorite parts of box of moonlight: he's just starting to get in a good mood, he's driving around listening to the groovy tape, and trying to figure out how the saying goes... "wherever you go, there you are, no... wherever you are... WELL, WHEREVER YOU'RE GOING, I HOPE TO CHRIST YOU GET THERE! Al Fountain, Saturday *checks watch* 4:36 PM" (or whatever) ;-)

I love Living In Oblivion and The Real Blonde. Obviously any film with Catherine Keener in it is worth watching. The latter also features that guy with the hilarious mid-Atlantic accent and (spoilers) the bit at the end with the dog.

Apparently there is a porn film remake of Living In Oblivion called Jizzing In Oblivion.

Have all of his movies since Living in Oblivion gone straight to video? He's one of those directors like Alan Rudolph who I liked for about a year, then felt like I "grew out of" (ooh how snooty). I remember thinking that the Real Blonde was the best of his films but I can't remember why as I can't recall a single thing about it.

i'm not sure. i never noticed them in theaters, but i don't keep a very close eye on what's showing.
