i liked it. beautiful shots of iceland. the sensibility reminded me very much of kaurismaki (though i may have just confused sensibility with scandinavian locales). the grouchy father of noi's love interest wearing a t-shirt that said "NEW YORK FUCKING CITY" belongs on the funniest scenes thread. noi's father singing "in the ghetto" at rural iceland kareoke night does too.

Just finished "Noi", and I really enjoyed it. It was a bit more of a standard "coming of age" film than I expected, but it took a cliched genre & gave it some nice twists. The thing that makes a good COA film stand apart is the little nuances that make it unique, and this film did a great job of that. The only other films in the genre that I can think of that was as successful in creating the same kind of feel is "The 400 Blows" and "Julien Donkey-Boy" (yes, I know, very different films, but I saw elements of both in "Noi")
