it seems that there are a number of german films dealing with terrorism (RAF, baader-meinhof): schlondorff's "the legend of rita", petzold's "the state i am in", veil's "black box brd", but does anyone know if there's been much writing done on these as a genre? links? suggestions of films? i'm just curious.

and other schlondorff films apply, including "the lost honor of katharina blum" (maybe the most obvious of this batch)

Another: Fassbinder's "The Third Generation."

Bruce LaBruce does a queer spoofy thing on Baader-Meinhof in his latest, "The Raspberry Reich" (shot in Berlin).

Also, Victoria Mapplebeck did a documentary on the son of one of the women of the Baader-Meinhof group; one of the principle issues was on the depiction of his mother on-screen.

For writing and links, you could start with

Another excellent film is Germany in Autumn, a collaboation among Fassbiner, Schlondorff, the great Alexander Kluge and many others mixing documentary and fiction to look at the Red Army Faction and the climate in Germany at the time.

Uh, that's Fassbinder, with a "d".
And collaboration, with an "r".

What to Do in Case of Fire (Was tun, wenn's brennt?) is certainly an odd one, being that it's almost completely Hollywood from start to finish. Still, there's some parts of it worth watching (not least of which is the answer to the title, though that's given in the first minute of the film).

Another good film: Die Bleierne Zeit. It might have a different title in English, or indeed German. Marguerite Von Trotha directs, I think.

Not quite the same thing, but similar 1970s Urban Guerilla stuff is "Good Morning, Night", now in cinemas everywhere, about the Red Brigades kidnap of Aldo Moro.
