over the top sexist imagery in old hollywood films

I've seen cremaster3 recently and the "lamb girls" choreography made me think about those sexist old hollywood films, solely consisting of girls doing cute poses, lying down in circle with their heads pointing at the center and moving their legs to make shapes, or doing figures in a pool, or a single long traveling shot going around and up some giant wedding cake like structure to show the sexy girls planted there in a spiral up to the top. The male gaze doesn't get more blatant than this, yes, the only way to objectify a women more than this would be to glue a handle on her back. I think these were not stand alone films, they were part of "genres"... what were the names of those genres? It's something to be seen to be believed so I want to "google image" these things to scare people. I can't think of anything about it right now... "bathing beauties" was non-concluent in google... What says u?

I just found more info on where I've seen these images, it was in that documentary that's entertainment" featuring fred astaire walking in an abandoned set wearing pants too tight to allow him to put his whole hand in his pocket, if I remember correctly he could only put about 3/4 of his fingers in it.

I'm thinking of the "dream girl" in Lynch's "Eraserhead"--pretty little girlish dance, the Perma-Smile....then he completely turns it around by having the disgusting larvaes dropping from her. A teasing of the male gaze without the reward--it's brilliant.

are you saying that synchronized swimming is sexist?

it's on-par with spousal abuse.

Busby Berkley is the name you're looking for.

Or Berkeley. Whoops!

There's loads of wild barely-sublimated sexuality in classic musicals. That's what gives them their energy.

The first thing that popped into my head is the "Beautiful Girls" segment in Singin' in some Rain.

A whole bunch of women trying hard to hold impossible poses (on par with foot-binding) without moving, not even being given the benefit of a still frame.

I dunno, but 'on-par with spousal abuse' or foot-binding seems just a little excessive to me . .
