Weird and wonderful

I'm here to suggest, and hopefully receive, some recommendations. For adventurous filmlovers only!

Blue Sunshine (1978)
Bizarre horror-sci-fi-mystery by cult hero Jeff Lieberman. A few college kids experiment with an LSD called Blue Sunshine. Ten years later, they start to lose their hair, go mad, and commit murder. The script has some nice satiric undertones, and the shocks are handled with skill and intelligence.

Master of the Flying Guillotine (1975)
The One-Armed Boxer versus the Master of the - you guessed it - Flying Guillotine, sort of a bowl with spikes inside attached to a chain, which is hurled at an opponent's head (creating what sounds like a bullet ricochet?), resulting in instant decapitation. Confused? Don't worry. At the heart of the film is an extended fight tournament which has very little to do with the, ahem, plot, but a whole lot to do with various fighting styles and a few surprisingly funny bits. Particularly unforgettable is the Arab with the ability to stretch his limbs (gamers: think Dalsim in Street Fighter II). The climactic duel is also a jaw-dropper.

Night of the Creeps (1986)
If you can appreciate a film that affectionately references Ed Wood or has characters named Romero, Cronenberg, and Raimi, then you'll have a blast with this one. Experimental alien slugs accidentally wind up on Earth and begin to wreak havoc by burrowing into people's heads, turning them into living dead. Huh?? It's a hilarious film, that, unlike many of the straight-faced films it spoofs, makes an effort to create characters worth getting interested in. Somehow this one's become an obscurity, but it's well worth tracking down on VHS.

What can you offer me?

Troll 2! Maybe its just Weird and Bad, but it is one of the most surreal movies I've ever seen. Especially for being a direct-to-video movie, which as a rule are usually bad in a very bland way.

It also has a palpaple sense of dread and menace which transcends (maybe stems from?) its awfulness.

I would compare it to Manos: the Hands of Fate, except its a bit more professionally done.

sorry, not my forte. my sense of "weird and wonderful" only goes so far as early Waters and Kuchar. Anything I've seen that fits the criteria of the films already mentioned is probably just old hat to the rest of you.

I've not seen it but this film was seemingly made for this thread.

not "weird" so much as "playful" but still really wonderful: alone: life wastes andy hardy

also, alejandro jodorowsky to thread

Jodorowsky seconded. I'll add the transgressive cinema of Nick Zedd and Richard Kern as well.

I keep hoping against hope that this thread is going to be about Bennie and the Jets.
