In terms of over-the-top "that's not plotting, that's art direction" terms, this movie makes Crash look like Once, and in terms of emotional tenor it makes Dancer in the Dark look like a John Hughes movie, and so I find it kinda funny and would like to discuss it with people.

I think it mostly reminded me of It's All About Love in terms of:
promising cast+ high (and arty) production values+ director very clearly and earnestly super-attached to specific ideas and concepts+ slightly fantastical fable-like tone+ OOPS WAIT THIS IS ACTUALLY RIDICULOUS AND TOTALLY NOT WORKING=weird viewing experience

JUST FOR INSTANCE, Sarah Michelle Gellar plays a popular r&b singer called "Trista" who cries constantly and represents SORROW, do you see?
Taylor Nichols plays her father in a flashback scene that's supposed to feel fantastically important but is kinda vexed by the fact that it resembles a cut-away joke from Family Guy.

Well then I won't feel bad spoiling what happens to Taylor Nichols in the flashback sequence: he puts his little daughter on a school bus, reassuring her that everything will be okay and he'll be waiting for her at the end of the school day, and then as she walks down the bus aisle, staring pleadingly out the window at him, he does a funny little dance outside, in the rain, in a big yellow raincoat, a cute little dance that makes his little daughter smile, and then as he jigs to one side BLAM HE IS HIT BY A CAR

It would be selfish to convince someone else to see this just so I could talk to them about how it's kinda awful
I saw this. It's the cinematic equivalent of an Alannis Morrisette song.
