Anyone seen this yet--it's directed by Wong Kar-Wai, Steven Soderberg & Michaelangelo Antonioni.

this is the BMW thing right?

ryan (ryan), Monday, 21 March 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

no connection to bmw.

i haven't seen it but it's been on my list for a bit. i'm terribly curious to find out of if the antonioni segment really is as bad as rumoured.

i have heard that the only one that is any good is the soderbergh... which is disappointing. my hopes were never high for the antonioni one, but i did for kar-wai's.

two weeks pass...
this is opening tomorrow in new york & bringing with it a new wave of horrible reviews.

since i strongly doubt that the folks at landmark will mind having their promotional effluvia scattered far and wide, here's a quote that (the last line espeically) attempts to (i think successfully) critique-proof the film:

"Making Eros was like opening so many windows onto places still unknown to us. It was like following Michelangelo along that dangerous thread of things that only he has in his mind, and which are revealed to us along a path that is as long as our lives. It was very exciting to work with all those people who made this film. Thanks for having given Michelangelo many days of life."

ten months pass...
Still haven't seen it, but Dave Kehr is wild about the extra Antonioni short they added to the DVD.

My feelings (from a year ago) were that WKW's section was okay, Soderbergh's was blah (not a fan of SS), and Antonioni's was pretty awful - probably worse than Beyond the Clouds (note: I love most of Antionioni's films I've seen). Still, probably worth a rental if you haven't seen it.

If it's the same short, Rosenbaum was talking it up awhile ago too.

Speaking of festival shorts that will never open theatrically, I hope Guy Maddin makes a feature soon to tack My Dad is 100 Years Old on to.

He's made a 'foreign' feature... in Seattle!
