i'm not sure what this means--kids who go on a riot?

If so, "Do The Right Thing" is at the top of my list.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Thursday, 24 March 2005 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

more like kids who can't take it anymore and rage against the system.

ryan davis, Thursday, 24 March 2005 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"Zero de Conduite"
"Rock 'n' Roll High School"
"Rushmore" (sort of)

Phil Dellio (j.j. hunsecker), Thursday, 24 March 2005 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I was still OTM with DTRT.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Friday, 25 March 2005 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't seen 'em yet, but Alan Clarke's films released on Blue Underground DVD would seem to fit the bill.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Friday, 25 March 2005 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Over the Edge, directed by Jonathan Kaplan, starring Matt Dillon, is exactly the movie you're looking for.

Dr Benway (dr benway), Friday, 25 March 2005 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

River's Edge. And Lindsay Anderson's If... makes a good compare/contrast with Zero de Conduit. I guess strictly speaking, Elephant would count, too?

evil bill (evil bill), Friday, 25 March 2005 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, forget River's Edge. There's not really any actual rioting in it, as far as I remember. Just a lot of sitting around and moaning.

evil bill (evil bill), Friday, 25 March 2005 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Alan Clarke? That stuff used to be really difficult to see. When did they put those DVDs out?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Over the Edge seconded, I love it.
Wild in the Streets starring Christopher Jones, Shelley Winters, and Richard Pryor. oh and Ed Begley, Sr.

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"If..."

That old one with Malcolm McDowell.

mj (robert blake), Friday, 25 March 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoops, already been posted, up thread.

mj (robert blake), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The set came out last summer sometime. It appears to be an astonishing set.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Friday, 25 March 2005 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember when they showed must of them about ten years ago at MOMA (I think). "I want you to meet my friend Stanley" said Gary Oldman in The Firm

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

And then there was Made In Britian with Tim Roth. Quite a few good actors who we are now tired of got their starts with Clarke, I think. And some of those performances turn out to be their best ever.

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

There was a great one where these kids rioted at a summer camp and took all of the adults hostage. It's been done in some form many times, but I remember this one in particular being pretty effective. I can't recall the name..

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 28 March 2005 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Wild in the Streets starring Christopher Jones, Shelley Winters, and Richard Pryor. oh and Ed Begley, Sr.
I've always wanted to see that. It's a Roger Corman think, no?

Ken L (Ken L), Monday, 28 March 2005 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes (dir by Barry Shear) ... fun but dumb. Hippie-exploitation.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 28 March 2005 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)
