what we talk about when we talk about neo-neo realism

so a.o. scott wrote this article where he tries with semi-honesty to answer "why realism" and... i mean its tl;dr and filled with rong but interesting to talk about, maybe

and: richard brody v nicely gives a numbered rebuttal but i think hes too harsh and limits the scope of neorealism to meaninglessness with what he claims is "its emphasis on outer life at the expense of inner life"

i have thoughts but im curious to know what, if anything, you film nerds make of this stuff
