Pick only one spare, somber, critically acclaimed, one-word-titled indie flick about teenagers killing each other.

SORRY ABOUT MY SPELLING I LIKED MATH (wanko ergo sum), Saturday, 21 November 2009 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

Everyone around here seemed to like or love Brick whereas Elephant got more of a mixed reception (iirc?). I think there may have been a little reactionary hate having to do with a weariness with Gus Van Sant and some of his baggage.

I liked 'em both, but Brick seems to get more and more... ordinary(?) with repeated viewings. I'm not even sure what seemed so fresh about the Highschool Noir conceit in the first place. Elephant totally holds up for me, though, and seems the greater acheivement by AN ORDER OF MAGNITUDE.

i really like both these films. otoh, elephant i saw in a hushed theatre of late teens and 20-somethings, and brick was just some movie i saw on dvd and thought was clever, which i'm tempted to mean i'd go for 'elephant', though i think the other might be better put together in a lot of ways

ha, xpost

At least Brick moves. Both not very good though.

Brick's an interesting misfire though.

Two totally different films. Not sure why there's a comparison. One is overly-chatty; the other is overly-silent. One is hyperactive; the other is menacingly sleepy (until the end). One is character-driven; the other is a hodgepodge of largely undifferentiated characters floating on-and-off screen.

FWIW, Brick.

I don't think I'll ever watch Brick. Elephant is my favorite GVS from the last decade.
