Excellent Russian film, set in 1906, about a cell of assassins. Just out on DVD in the US. Stars Siberian actor Andrei Panin. (Holy shit, does he look like John Voigt or what?) Anyone seen it?

Haven't seen it, but the IMDB reviews stirs a vague memory of some recent UK Guardian article. Sounds interesting, and there has certainly been some wild stuff coming out of Russia lately. How is it? Tell all. Should I risk ten dollars on a dubious eBay copy?

The Region 1 Kino DVD is 4:3 AR; IMDB says it was filmed widescreen. Yet the DVD doesn't look like either a P & S or open matte. Very strange, no?

Very vivid deep-focus look to it, and production values seem first-rate. The storyline is quite episodic. Certainly not as weird and compelling as, say, Russian Ark, but I do recommend it.

I meant to type 1905, not 1906, in my original post, btw.

Let me know about the dubious ebay copy, should you decide to buy it.
