Seeking help from the ILF collective mind.

I've recently joined a DVD rental scheme which I am loving and am looking forward to renting some more interesting movies, I'm trying to improve my knowledge of film (at the risk of sounding pretentious)

I enjoy reading the ILF postings as it has led me to a few corners of the film world I might not have previously visited.

Rentals I have enjoyed so far:

Hana Bi
La Regle Du Jeu
A Bout De Souffle
Dark Water
Alphaville
Tokyo Drifter

Some from my queue:

The Sacrifice
Slaughterhouse Five
The Castle Of Cagliostro
Orphee
Dobermann
Mean Streets (yes I've never seen it!)
Europa
Office Space

I am open to most genres, does anyone have any cool suggestions or even dissuations I would be most grateful.

Does this DVD rental scheme go by the name of Netflix? What I mean is, is there a way for us to know what they have, so we're not making recommendations of everything ever?

It's a UK service called Love Film, it's fairly comprehensive.

With the emphasis on 'fairly' I guess!

add the Godards available up through Pierrot le Fou or Masculin-Feminin. (I don't think Weekend has a UK release)

I've got Weekend, Perriot Le Fou, Prenom Carmen and Made In USA queued up already but I've just added Masculin Feminin, thanks!

Does it have any Chantal Ackerman?

They have a film called The Captive.

Based on Proust. Rent Schlöndorff's Swann in Love and Raul Ruiz's Time Regained and make a weekend of it.

I recommend checking out all the Sam Fuller and Kinji Fukasaku you can get your hands on. Also, since you liked Alphaville, try Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451.

Throw Shoot the Piano Player on your list too, not to mention any Jean-Pierre Melville you can get your hands on.

This is all great thanks, just got The Sacrifice through.
