she's in a room with a bed in it, we only ever hear her side of the conversation, it's totally heartbreaking - also possibly "only" like an hour long?

No clue. Although it's odd that you can pinpoint the year like that, e.g., why not just 1960? What language? Color/B&W? What does she look like? What does the room look like? Do we hear anything else, e.g., city sounds from outside? I'm assuming the editing is pretty minimal but...

Is it a film version of Cocteau's 'La voix humaine'?

Color. It's directed pretty conventionally and the costumes and her hairstyle are all conventional Hollywood style stuff. It's not gritty! The room's a bedroom, she spends a bit of time on the floor next to the bed, on the bed, etc. Mainly twisting the phone cord around and alternating between anguish and forced happiness.

I have no idea why I said 1961 instead of 1960.

I think it's American but now you mention it I can't remember! I feel certain it's based on a stage play or extended monologue.

Is she crying and replying to a long monologue from a man on the other side of a one-way mirror? (Paris, Texas)

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 14:11 (fifteen years ago)

She's doing a lot of crying and replying to a man on the other end, but it's not Paris Texas - it's from the 1950s or 1960s!

Dudes the entire movie is the monologue. There is nothing else!
